Oh man, I totally get the frustration!! that kind of half-memory is the worst, especially with something as specific as “a powerful clan of satyrs.” I vaguely remember reading something along those lines too, and Rieuwood definitely rings a bell. I want to say it was Tenser, not Mordenkainen, and it might have been from one of the Living Greyhawk Journal entries that fleshed out his activities post-GH Wars. Could be LGJ #0 or one of the early ones?
There’s also a chance it was buried in a character write-up or sidebar in one of the later 3e Greyhawk revival materials like the Doomgrinder or Slavers modules, or even in the The Adventure Begins book. But I’m leaning LGJ as well.
