by Jonathan "endycarus" Dawes Campaigning in the Sultanate of Zeif is for groups that would like a taste of the Ottoman Empire in their fantasy. A very lawful country that deals out corporal punishment and indentured servitude, Zeif can be a difficult place for the chaotic to thrive, but some will surely rise to the challenge. Half-orc characters have a special place in the Sultan's private army of orcs, the Uruzaries. Religious characters will find a devout people with a powerful clergy of the Balkunish pantheon. Above all, the Mouqollad Consortium represents the pinnacle of trade as religion, where canny players can navigate complex trade agreements and beginners may guard many a caravan. With a countryside of rolling plains, horsemanship is a valued skill and, for the Paynim nomads in particular, a way of life. The Sultan's Royal Navy offers opportunities for both sea and undersea adventures; in fact, the inventor Kwalish (of the famed "apparatus") lived here 400 years ago. For those seeking intrigue, it can be found aplenty in the court struggles between the reigning Sultan, Murad the Proud; his chief advisor, the Grand Vizier; and his mother, the Matron Sultana. Adventures in the country include:
-The trade routes of the Mouqollad Consortium won't protect themselves! Players can protect the caravans from raiding Paynim horsemen or rampaging humanoids, or they may conduct their own heists on these travelling banks, sharing the wealth with the needy.
-The Royal Zeif Navy wants you to help clear out rebel pirates from the Bakhoury Coast. The pirates would also like your help getting past the navy.
-It is rumoured that the great inventor Kwalish left behind a trove of fabulous schematics, but none have been able to find it. Join the Order of Kwalish to research possible locations and bring these valuable documents to their rightful place, or strike on your own so that you can sell them to the highest bidder!
-An insidious slaver ring operates out of the old city of Dhabiya. Uncover the strange mystery behind it and bring the operation to its knees.
-A disgraced Spahi has been reduced to indentured servitude and his possessions are being sold off to pay his debts. One of his heirlooms is more than it seems and you must have it!
Adventures in nearby areas include:
-The Sultan's reach does not end at the shore. Merfolk living in the Dramidj Ocean pay tribute to him as a vassal state. Find out what is like to fight underwater when the Mersheiks call on the Sultanate for aid against their enemies.
-The borders of the Sultanate once included Ket and Tusmit. There are some who would see the empire rise again.
-A schism in the church of Al'Akbar is the chief sticking point in negotiations with Ket, where the True Faith is followed over the original Exalted Faith practiced in Zeif.
