    The Suel Pantheon: Wee Jas

Priests of Wee Jas (Goddess of Law, Magic, and Death)

AL: any lawful, RA: see below; SY: a skull backlit by a fireball, AR: chainmail or less, no shield, Wpn: club, dagger, flail, knife, mace, morning star, sling, staff; SPH: all, astral, charm, divination, elemental (fire, earth), guardian, healing, law, necromantic, protection, summoning, thought, time, wards (m), weather (m); Spl: ability alteration, Add: create water, light, spiritual hammer, continual light, prayer, flame strike, holy word.

Priests of Wee Jas are known to uphold law above all else, even above good, evil, or indifference. Clergy of Wee Jas within any particular church will be lawful neutral (50%), lawful evil (30%), and lawful good (20%). Members of her clergy wear back vestments if good, gray vestments if neutral, and white vestments if evil. The clergy of Wee Jas are on favorable terms with clerics of all lawful deities for they are known to uphold law above all else. Consequently, followers of Wee Jas are hated and despised by all chaotic figures.

Regardless of alignment, priests of Wee Jas can turn or command undead as they choose. While all priests are required to destroy undead wherever they are found, as the state of undeath is anathema to the will of Wee Jas, the goddess empowers her priests to temporarily make use of such creatures if necessary to further their cause. In addition to this granted power, priests of Wee Jas also receive the special blessing of reduced casting times for many of their spells. For priests of levels 1-4, the casting times of 1st and 2nd level spells are reduced by 1. For priests of levels 5-8, the casting times of 1st and 2nd level spells are reduced by 2. For priests of levels 9-13, the casting times of 3rd and 4th level spells are reduced by 1. For priests of levels 14 and up, the casting times of 3rd and 4th level spells are reduced by 2, and the casting times of 5th level spells is reduced by 1. Reductions to casting times are not cumulative, and any casting time that is reduced to zero or less is considered to have a casting time of ˝.

Wee Jas, being a guardian of the dead, is loathe to allow anyone to be raised or resurrected who is lower than 9th level, or not of a lawful alignment. It is only 50% likely she will allow her clergy to raise a being who is neutral with respect to law and chaos, and it is only 15% likely she will allow the raising of a chaotic being. A priest of Wee Jas who goes against her wishes, or who does not consult her in the matter of raising dead will be demoted one experience level and will forfeit three levels worth of spellcasting ability until he or she performs atonement.

Wee Jas is worshipped in highly lawful and civilized communities, including Lo Reltarma, the Scarlet Brotherhood, and the Theocracy of the Pale. All of her churches are huge, elaborate structures, and services to her are long and complex affairs lasting for hours.

The above version of the Wee Jas specialty priest is the "Mark I" version of 1991. I added ability alteration to the spell list when FtA came out.

When the non-armor wearing, more spell intensive specialty priest for Wee Jas came out, I relegated the above entry to completely replacing the standard cleric class entry for her clergy. The above entry became the "Church Guardian" specialty priest, while the new, more spell oriented specialty priests became the "Ruby Witches".

In either case, my original entry simplified the turn undead issue completely. After another look at it, its probably better to go with the simple version than to have to check to see if undead are lawful or not, as all undead are beholden to Wee jas, to be used and destroyed at Her whim.
