    Illusionist List

I have seen numerous lists on the web and here at Canonfire regarding druids and mages, along with warriors and rogues of the Flanaess. Even Dragons, Undead , and Giants get their share of coverage. But, is there a list of the great Illusionists of Greyhawk?

In the past few months of game play, I was astonished by the number of illusionists that are in the Flanaess. Jumper of Iuz' Greater Bone Heart is perhaps the most powerful. Teuod Fent of the Bandit Kingdoms, Dame Rhavelle of Gold County in Furyondy, etc. Interesting figures, yes.

Does anyone even care to see such a list or to contribute to such a list?
These 1st edition specialists deserve some recognition.

    Thanks for the imput.

Interesting topic, Skech. To each his own, but how can the most powerful illusionist in GH not be a gnome? The gnomes in my campaign are somewhat xenophobic, and they live isolated in the Abbor Alz, but if I was making a 'top illusionists in the Flanaess' list, I'm sure I'd have one of these demi-humans at or near the top - whether the sage on the street knew about him/her or not...

A couple of others (though none are particularly high level)
    - There is a pirate leader at the end of the Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh
    - Ilkhan Gajtak of the Tiger Nomads is a fighter / illusionist (though more fighter than illusionist)
    - A couple of of illusionist gnomes help guard the entrance to the Vale of the Mage

I may have made up the levels for some of these but here are the ones I've come across or made up so far while preparing my gazeteer:

Mistress Serin Thistledown (female gnome Illusionist 10) from Gran March
Archmage Meckser (Male Gnome Illusionist 13, Archmage 1, CG) from Keoland
Eugene Nimblefingers (Male Gnome Rogue, Illusionist) from the Sea Princes
Rashaman of Safeton (Male Human Illusionist 9, Fighter 2) of Dyvers (since kidnapped)
Garlan Baramare (Male Gnome Fighter 2, Illusionist 5, N) of Sourlode in the Domain of Greyhawk
Lamonsten the Lazy, (illusionist 8, LE) from Greyhawk (formerly of the Slave Lords)
Prince Jimm (Gnome Male Fighter 5, Illusionist 2, LN) of Verbobonc
Hadric (Male Human Illusionist 6, LE) of teh Duchy of Ulek
Dennen Astralstaff (Male Human Illusionist 15, N) of the County of Ulek (don't think he is officially an illusionist but I haven't seen his 'official' stats yet)
Count Igric von Suss Vaaren (Gnome Fighter Illusionist) cohort of the Circle of Eight

    Just a few more...

Kermin "Mind-Bender" might be considered an illusionist He is a member of Iuz's Greater circle of Six in the Gord the Rogue books ( Jumper served on the Lesser Six).

Gleed, a gnome illusionist/thief killed by Melf in the Gord books.

Orsinvel, Human illusionist and owner of Orsinvel’s House of Living Tales in Greyhawk City.

Wimpell Frump also worked for the Slavelords (A3)

Bolo Bargaffer, Manager of the City of Greyhawk Theatre

How could I have forgotten Gleed!

Kermin is traditionally listed as a wizard, occasionally with the mindbender prestige class. I actually swapped around his intelligence and charisma and made him a sorcerer. He seemed a perfect candidate since the new class was brought in in 3e - a guy who scours Iuz' empire looking for people with innate magical talents - sounds like a sorcerer looking for others to train to me.

From memory - Kermin Mindbender was a Diviner. If anyone deserves levels as a Mindbender I would say Rary would be a good candidate.

yes - Kermin's description from Iuz the Evil said that he was a rival for Kaquizel (drow diviner) because of his divinitory skills but he was still listed as a standard wizard.

I'm still inclined to build him as a sorcerer with levels of mindbender just to see how he turns out. His Mind Blast ability looks like a variation of the archmage ability (High Arcana is it?) and could probably be explained away by means of a Feat.

An alternative build could involve psionics - but I've never been a fan of psionics - that's best left in the realms of sci fi in my view.

Haven't looked at Rary yet - I was inclined to go for wizard 19, archmage 5 (based on his levels at 585 CY). Presumably he will gain a few levels after taking over the Bright Lands, depending on what year you choose, although I haven't given any thought to what pretige classes that might involve. You could try Duicarthan's site, that usually has some good inspiration for epic characters and pretige classes.

I already slapped his wrist for erroneously listing Jumper as a standard wizard instead of an illusionist though.

    Easy, two words:
    Level Limits

Sure, 3.x D&D got rid of them, but Greyhawk's setting history will still reflect the presence of them in 1e and 2e.
