    DA1 Adventures in Blackmoor

A simple question: Is it set for Greyhawk or Mystara?

and is Paladin in Hell really set in Rauxes!? Backcover doesn't explain.

The DA 1-4 series is set in Mystara, but can be played without Mystara if you stick to just the modules themselves. They are not set up for Greyhawk, although familiar Greyhawkesque aspects can be imported with work. I doubt the Arneson's Blackmoor for Greyhawk will ever be realized, but with these modules and the info on Blackmoor on-line (which there's not much of) you can build your own. Then there is the Blackmoor campaign setting hardcover which has loads of non-Greyhawk info to plumb as well (but I haven't read it).

Sorry, I have no info on the Paladin in Hell. I've never seen it.

I don't have it in front of me, but I don't remember any info on Rauxes in it. IF I remember correctly, it started with a funeral for a pally the PC's had been invited to. Like most later 2ed mods it was pretty generic as far as setting goes. The only major personage I remember being in it is Emrikol the Chaotic (and I don't know if there is any GH specific mention of him?) at his castle.

All in all a pretty good mod if you can get pc's to that level. There are some VERY hard encounters in it, especially if the pcs get curious and try to do some scouting around. Happy

I don't have it in front of me either but from what I remember "A Paladin in Hell" is generic (in fact the Paladin worshipped Nehod or something like that which isn't from any setting I've read).

Emrikol the Chaotic was a character in the original Gygax campaign (I've heard both that he was Dave Trampier's character and that he was an NPC so I'm not sure which, I think Trampier is the artist of the picture of him in the original Dungeon Master's Guide though) which is a link to Greyhawk, but then again, I think TSR made Emrikol an NPC in the Mystra campaign world when they published it.

I liked "A Paladin in Hell" but it was a bit odd seeing Emrikol in the role of a hero, I'd always visualized him as CHAOTIC Neutral with evil leanings.

    Shocked Insightful!

As to DA1 - it's almost definitely not set in the Flanaess - at least not in the setting released by Mr Gygax.

For more info on Blackmoor, best check here:

The oroginal Blackmoor is always connected to two other settings than WoG - Mystara and *Wilderlands of High Fantasy*, of which I favour the second. Smile
