    Martyrdom

IMC, the spiritual guide to the PC, a high-level cleric of Pelor, will be killed/tortured in it's own temple by agent from Tharizdurn. Due to his life of service to Pleor, the god will send of of its servitors to end his suffering and cleansened the temple.

While I have some idea, I would like people comments on this cleric will become an official martyr of Pelor. How do you do this as there is no offical one "pope" for the chuch ? Any good suggestion beside the PC spreading the word ?

actually had a similar situation IMC once. here's how I pulled it off; hope this helps:

Step 1: The cleric dies, as described. There's a big funeral and lots of significant personages show up to say how wonderful he was. (Adventure opportunity: perhaps the players have to hunt down his killers or stop someone from stealing the body. Perhaps some of the prominent personages who show up for the funeral are spreading lies to sully the cleric's reputation.)

Step 2: A little while later (a few days, or months at most) the cleric unexpectedly shows up in some obscure way. Perhaps he's spotted helping an old lady across the street or heals some sick begger in the street. (Adventure opportunity: the players have to investigate whether or not the cleric has risen as undead or perhaps he's being impersonated.)

Step 3: Over the next few weeks or months, sightings of the dead cleric become more common and less obscure. (Adventure opportunity: as above, but there's a concerted effort to suppress stories of the cleric's return. The PCs need to find out why.)

Step 4: At some suitably dramatic moment, the cleric arrives on the scene to save the day. Everyone sees him, and he describes his new state of being to someone reputable who can spread the story. (Adventure opportunity: what dramatic situation do the player's get themselves into that requires the dead cleric to make a grand public appearance?)

Step 5: There is a meeting of high-level clerics to determine whether or not this is an act of Pelor or a grand deception. (Adventure opportunity: dark forces within Pelor's clerical hierarchy try to deny the cleric's transcendance; the PCs have to discover the plot and stop it.)

Step 6: The dead cleric (or perhaps his followers) provides sufficient proof of his new "sainthood", and a new order of Pelorite monks/clerics is begun in his honor. (Adventure opportunity: the PCs have to accompany/guard the clerics of the new order as they build/clean out/consecrate their new facility.)
