List of Sages & Savants of Greyhawk

Does anyone know of a consolidated list of Sages and Savants of Greyhawk. I would prefer a canon list, but would accept one that had fannon if they are distinguished.

Even better would be an index of where they appear.

Yes, Google is my friend but it hasn't brought me what I want. Nor has using the "search feature" here on canonfire.com.

    Thanks,

Have you checked the Duicarthex, maybe? That's my best guess.

    Duicarhthex?

Where would that be? I know of Zavoda's index but this one is new to me...

There really are not too many sages of note. Of the top of my head i can only think of two:

    1. Iquander
    2. Pluffet S. Smedger(you gotta take a trip through a worm-hole to the future to involve him though)
    3. The Fiend-Sage

There must be other sages mentioned (particularly in Greyhawk), but none come immediately to mind. I've created one who specializes in ancient civilizations/races and arcana- Mulgath the Wanderer, Savant-Sage of Dyvers.

The 'Duicarthex' is Rick Miller's NPC Encyclopedia, which is available for free download here: http://www.greyhawkonline.com/duicarthan/dnd.html

For the three or four of you who still don't know who Rick Miller is, he's the talented and devoted editor-in-chief of the Oerth Journal. The OJ, of course, is available for free download at this URL: http://www.oerthjournal.com/oerthjournals.html and might contain an article or two that could be of help with your search.

(*sneakily pockets the 35 cents Rick paid for the publicity...*)

You can also go to my City of Greyhawk NPC annotated index at http://melkot.com/locations/cogh/cog-npcs.html and do a "Find in page" search for "sage". There you'll find 9 sages in the City of Greyhawk, and the page references for the source materials.

Or do the same thing with Rob's Bastard Greyhawk NPC page -- http://homepages.ius.edu/rvest/Greyhawk/GHNPCs.html in which you will find 13 sages and hey, Lucky Pierre -- one half-elven exotic dancer named Sage. Smile

    Hahaha.... no problem, bubbagump!
But since you mention it, I was actually working on a quick little sketch map for Duic tonight. Wink I'm sure he'll be ecstatic to know that I'm actually working on the "quick little map" that I kinda promised I'd "whip up" for him something like 5 months ago. Shocked

I don't know how canon these are, or if they made any of the above lists, but these are from EGG's campaign.
Robilar had two sages, Herb, who was actually an apprentice of Otto's with sagely abilities, and Isador.
In Greyhawk there was the Master of the Sage's Guild Kralaist Dechler, and the Master of the Savant's Guild Klinchak the Striped Mage. Both were also oligarchs.

Not to mention Ahern the Sage in Kalstrand who is featured in Return to the Tomb of Horrors.

IIRC Zavoda's index tracks sages as an explicit category.

We can add Elraniel Tesmarien, the grey elf sage from Nyrond who currently lives in Clerksberg in Greyhawk City. He's described in From the Ashes.

I think there's an 18th level sage in Istivin from a Dungeon module - I forget his name but I'm sure that someone nerdier than me can recall it.

Found another one: Rhammulfleiss - lives in Moatshield in the County of Crystalreach whose expertise involves the history of Furyondy and its old vassal states, including Veluna, the Shield Lands, and Highfolk.

I also think the sages Svorjer Deol, Hodd of Dyvers, and Klemba the Gray, three experts on the Amedio jungle live in Northending Wood near Gradsul.

    Groovy.

I was just reading through some old Dragon articles on the WoG, and I noticed this reference that I thought I'd add to the thread:

"Emasstus Carcosa, a well-known sage and Patriarch for the high seat of Pholtus at Rauxes"

The Gord the Rogue novels provide a few more:

Doctor Prosper, he is Gord and San's tutor in the first novel, and also appears in City of Hawks. He is old and retired, and maintains a small house with a garden. He has very broad knowledge of plenty of things.

Twistbuck, a Don at Count's College, areas of knowledge include architecture, cartography, history, and city planning (he created the weird game with his name, causing Gord to lose the wager with Chert).

A Doctor Bizzell is also mentioned, a friend of Prosper, a Don at Landgrave College.

If I think of any more I'll post them.

    Aerdi sages

From Ivid the Undying there are several Aerdi sages that can be consulted on various subjects. The one I liked best was the lich-sage Rexifer. is expertise is in metaphysics, specifically the Nine Hells.

Several others were mentioned. A few priests of Hextor have sage like knowledge of metaphysics as well.
