    3.5 Circle of Eight

I'm in the process of doing my own Circle of Eight 3.5 conversions and, wherever possible, trying to remain true to the old text in the City of Greyhawk boxed set. This has necessitated recreating a few of the old magical items from earlier editions.

Two items in particular are giving me a hard time: Otto's rod of steam and vapour and Rary's rod of beguiling. I have a vague idea of what these do from my now lost earlier edition DMG's but I would be very grateful if someone would be willing to outline what these items actually did.

    Ta.

A Wand of Steam & Vapor (Unearthed Arcana) has two functions:
A 10'x30'x50' cone of steam that does decreasing damage for 3 rounds: 6d6, 4d6, 2d6.
A 40'x60'x80' cloud of warm vapor that duplicates a Fog Cloud spell and does 1 point of damage per round to cold creatures.

A Rod of Beguiling makes all intelligent creatures within 20' love, trust, and respect the user for 1 turn (no save).

Thanks very much for the prompt reply! I'll be sure to update my entries with a 3.5 version as soon as possible.

    Cheers.

They did create a version of the Rod of beguiling for Neverwinter nights, might be a good starting point at least.

Thanks again. Not a bad 3.5 approximation for the original's powers, I think. The rod of beguiling certainly explains how a younger Rary might have managed to get past the first few minutes with the Paynims without being butchered.... I always wondered how he got to the point of actually getting them to listen to him long enough to respect his tales of their past. Smile
