Demon Witch of the Northlands concept art

Here is the concept art for the miniature drawn by Damascus Mincemeyer. I drove five hours to get it, and five hours back. I have not hung out with Damascus in years and I figured I'd go and do so.

    Anyhow, here it is!

I should mention that this is a link to the first of five drawings, hit Next to see them all.

Wow DM is a phenomenal artist. I'd nearly forgotten this was for a mini concept as its so much of a work of art on its own. And from all angles! I hope this project you guys are working on does well!

i must be honest: i love the art, its a great drawn, but it seems alittle "commom" person, like a girl one could meet in a tavern or so.

it lacks a supernatural thing, in my opinion

When I designed this, I basically told Damascus about the character, and then said, "I want the opposite of the Wicked Witch of the West."

I think she looks unassumingly dangerous. You see this attractive peasant girl in a fine dress, however she seems to be holding a wand as well as a book bound in flesh?

Patrick Keith has taken up the call to make her three-dimensional. He will begin on her in March.

    Art of Damascus

Wow ... Once again, I definately have to say that the art of Damascus definately reminds me of early Elmore sketches! Chaoticprime, you found yourself a really good artist in this guy ... as far as the miniatures company goes: you should consider yourself blessed to have a friend like that.
One of the things that astonishes me, is not only that there is so much eye-pleasing detail, but without making it overly full or too busy, is that the detail is so lovingly duplicated precisely in in different view. Each curl of hair that is viewable from different perspectives is placed perfectly and rendered in precisely the same way. Definitely great work all around!

This is six drawings, I think, that I have seen of his now, and I am definately going to get get in touch about having him do something for Canonfire. Not to mention encouraging Damascus to use his talent professionally.

Looks like you've got it going on Chaotic, nice artwork. Can't wait to see the finished product. Good luck my friend! Happy

I can see that, but this piece reminds me more of Liz Danforth, especially her b&w work for Tunnels & Trolls. I always loved her stuff!

Agreed! You've got yourself a really good artist, CP. Can't wait to see the greens.

Nice pics, but the corset should be doing what a corset does- define and shrink the waist, and push up the bust. In the pics, the corset is draped on the body, not tightly bound to it.

Could be "eviled up" a little bit more in the face and stance- more arch features, shoulders back, more imperious stance; with a haughty/evil expression.

I like the book as it is.

The corset is hiding her beer belly, it is already pushed to its limit. It is also made of mithril.

Ah, mithral. You might want something a little less like cloth, and bit more like this though:

    Or go for something classic:

    Or better still, this:

    Or this:

Yes, I know a little bit about corsets made of metal. Cool I haven't made one myself though. Yet. Wink

I didn't say "make one FOR myself", but actually just make one. These metal corsets are all hand-crafted; most of them by very skilled artists who also make armor(and other things). I am not so skilled a metal worker yet, so I have yet to make one.

I was actually joking about the metal corset.

When we all voted for "Seductress" I figured that I should probably make her seductive.

So what is more seductive, that crazy bitch from Lair of the White Worm, or a hot 18 year old chick like the Engineer chick from Firefly?

At the end of the story, my pc would put down his sword for the latter, but not the former.

I probably shouldn't mention it, but other than a couple of minor facial features she looks remarkably like my wife. Perhaps I should check her closet for spellbooks - I don't want to end up as another Grazzt!

    Hmmm... Then again...

I am not surprised. I have been outside your bedroom window every few nights with a camera for the last couple of years. By the way, I summoned Hastur in your backyard.

Well, it is supposed to be the "Demon Witch of the Northlands". I'm just not feeling the evil from that pic.

Never seen a metal corset in person actually, but even considering that I know I couldn't deform my torso enough to fit into one.

Yeah, women do not intimidate me. They're just people like everyone else.

I got a good deal with my wife, she acts like a dude but is a chick (and has always been so).

I dislike the "overtly evil" art of Iggwilv that has been done recently. Does she really have to look like Morticia Addams with spiked shoulder-pads?

When it comes to monsters and demons and the like, an intimidating appearance is necessary. When making a seductress, I want to make her approachable.

I also think the tome of bound pit fiend skin does the job of putting her into the "obviously evil" category.

Were I a Witch Queen, and I am, mind you, I would not wear a horrible looking evil dress made out of black leather and shoelaces. I would wear finery, I would dress nice. I would also want to look as young and bountiful as I could.

I am saying that if Grazz't popped out of that summoning circle and saw Charisma Carpenter wearing a dress he would probably be caught off guard. Whereas if she is wearing black leather, spikes, and the heads of her enemies, he can safely assume she wants bad things to happen.

I guess it comes down to personal preference, but if you do not want to have her represent Iggwilv, she will still make a kickass female wizard.

Plus she'll be pretty cheap, too. I know she will be under $5.00, probably under $4.00.

    Laughing Funny stuff.

You don't have to go uber campy evil with the mini. As for me, I guess I'm just looking for something other than a V:TM LARP chick holding a cool looking book prop. Wink
