Looks good. I was entertaining myself trying to translate the Elvish.

    I love it! Happy

I like how you expanded some of the forests, but I think they should have been even larger in those days. The Adri, for example, was supposed to cover most all of what is currently the Great Kingdom and to have extended all the way to the Nyr Dyv, if I recall correctly.

Love stuff like this ;) Wish I had saved my stuff back in the day. I think I was more creative back then.

Checked it out and wrote up my reply without fully reading all your post, apologies Mort. I've got to stop doing that. Again, nice approach and I like it. I've used parchment with a light table under it to trace and place main geo/topo-graphical points/areas for doing up an ancient map perspective, then populated it similar with context to the era/old kingdom. Thanks for sharing.

Mort great work... and eerily funny how similar to this On Piazza Site Elven Nations of the FLanaess

Based on reading the origin thread, It speaks of Elves, Dwarves, and Halfling Societies and Kingdoms. It further references that Gary Holan influenced it.... Shocked .. though I have yet to finish reading the thread there. Smile

Yeah I think the creator of that map shares a lot of the same inspiration as me. My map comes from Oerth Journal #1 and the timeline of the Suel by Steve Wilson.

By the by, I think I found my master cheat sheet for Tolkien elvish. I should be able to translate my own map someday when I have time. I think however I was striving for direct translations of Darlene labels so I wouldn't look too much into my work for new ideas.

Very cool, I'll have to find my c. 175 CY maps to compare to yours, Mike, although mine are certainly more recent (both in game time, and in that I created them while living in CA in the '00s).

Okay here is some translations for most of the less-obvious locations on the map. I really slaughtered the elvish. My spelling on the maps wasn't perfect either as I mashed words. This is the best I could do over a couple hours. Enjoy!

    Ringerume "Cold Desert"
    Usta Oldo "Burning Cliffs"
Mormiskador "Black ? Land" (Probably Blackmoor)
    Sornoroti "Eagle Mountains"
    Uuveassa "Great Chasm"
    Oiotaule "Endless Tree"
    Meneloroti "Heaven Mountains"
    Helkarasa "Icy Sea"
Ailo Voro Nura "Lake of Ever Deep"
    Silmoyanta "Moon Bridge"
Hoopa Durank "Harbour ?" (What ever it's Woolly Bay)
    Liante Malhama "Spider Throne"
    Talathpesh "Plain of Pesh"
Osto Lairelen "City of Summer Stars"
    Tol Nuuta "Isle of Sinking"
    Taurethel "Forest of Elves?"
    Taurewenya "Great Green Forest"
    Angatundo "Iron Hills"
    Oroalkarine "Glorious Mountains"
    Ronta Tarhen "Hollow High Hills"
    Astaldo Thon "Valiant Tree"

I made the map that Galen linked to (or, at least, I colored and labeled an existing map). Mine was an attempt to illustrate the elven nations that Samwise created, as described in this thread. Each of the four elven nations, in Sam's scheme, is named after a celestial body: Asternyx (the stars), Luna (the moon Luna), Celene (the moon Celene), and Helios (the sun).

Mortellan's map is very cool, though.

Ah Ras! Artistic talents too??? A Leonardo of GH indeed!!!

And thanks to both you and Mort for the translations (Consider them usurped) Laughing
I should have connected the elven nations names to their celestial counterparts, that one got by me Embarassed
being as my players are in Enstad, I see a map in thier future..... But that depends on getting out of the "guest house" and thier audience. Evil Grin

Given I know more now than I did back when that map was made, I'd love to do a remake. But will I? Only time will tell.
