Kas, o Kas, my friend... what shall I do with you?

    Greetings, Oerthlings!

Iīm currently running a Greyhawk campaign thatīs about Vecna returning to Oerth to overruun the place like an elephant downhill in a skateboard. He is building a fortress in the Baklunish West and preparing for war. But Iīd like to find a way to make Kas appear in it to... but I canīt think of anything plausible to justify his return. What shall I do, my friends?

Firstly, Do you have access to any of the older works that involve Vecna?
Vecna Lives, Vecan Reborn, or Die Vecna Die?

While these "may" not be to your tastes they should provide plenty of information on Vecna, Kas, and the hatred b/w Iuz/ Vecna to get you started. Also according to the LGJ1, Keoland once bordered the Empire of Vecna in ages past so this is a consideration too!

    Hope this helps some...

    Kas

Well... I'm currently working on an article on the vampires descended from Kas, and part of it focuses on how Kas's progeny are trying to find ways to elevate him to divine status, as Vecna has already done. Perhaps a way was found to free Kas (or he was allowed to escape) from the Demiplane of Dread to oppose Vecna on Oerth and maintain the balance?

POSSIBLE SPOILER to anyone who never read/played Die Vecna Die

When Vecna ascends to full god status in Die Vecna Die, he rips apart Ravenloft and his entire realm disappears. I guess there is no reason why you could not have Kas' realm torn from Ravenloft in the backwash of Vecna's exit since their two realms were adjoined. Alternatively, maybe Kas found a way to exit Ravenloft either by "piggyback" on Vecna's tail or by finding a way through the void where Vecna's realm once was.

In what I've written so far, the current followers of both Kas and Vecna oppose each other behind the scenes, but if you have Vecna re-creating his empire in the West, then perhaps Kas's followers would follow suit.

Yes, yes. But my greatest doubt right now (specially concerning that I really liked your idea and I intend to use it) are:

    1. Should I put the players in a Vecna x Kas miniwar for the domain of the Baklunish West?

    2. Considering that Vecna is preparing to launch a massive war against the rest of the Flanaees, wouldn't a miniwar against his swore enemy be a real big trouble for him?

    3. I know that there's something else, but I can't remember right now. Happy

But thanks for the insights so far!

Exactly, as he is tied to Vecna's legend he should have escaped too. The real question is how do you get him to a power level to be a match for the now-lesser god Vecna? High tier Evolved vampire and the artifact Sword of Kas will help, but only so far...
