Who is Nyr?

I noticed these powerfull magic items, the "Arms of Nyr", in the Defenders of the Faith supplement, I used them, but now I'd like to know... who is Nyr... does anyone knows it?

I'm unfamiliar with Defenders of the Faith. Do they seem linked to the similarly named great lake of the Central Flanaess?

I always assumed Nyr Dyv translated as "Lake of Unknown Depths" and I've seen others who agree, although there is disagreement on whether Nyr= "lake" or "water" or "unknown depths." More likely "water" since someone pointed out that "Dyv" is also in Velverdyva. If that's the case and the name of Nyr is related then some poor sucker got named "Unknown Depths" by his parents.

As far as who Nyr, as it relates to the artificial mithril arm, is I'd have to say he's the guy who invented that particular magic item. And he probably became a powerful wizard because he was tired of being beat up on the playground over his goofy name. Smile

MithrAl, people, mithrAl. We can't spell it with an I or Dr Tolkien's estate will be on us like an annoyed Balrog on some trespassing dwarves.

Or something. Confused Please return to your regularly scheduled debate.

Oops! My bad. I will throw myself on the mercy of the Elemental Lord of the Earth, Grome... uh, I mean Grumbar. Yeah, Grumbar. That's it.
