Is anything known about this town? Its at the head waters of the Jewel River int eh Western Gnarley Forest and very close to Nulb and ToEE.

There are a couple other sources for tangentially useful Sobanwych info.

From The Ashes has a section on the Gnarley. Altho it doesn't describe Sobanwych, that chapter has pertinent info on the forest that's a useful source of background material for assembling ones own version of the town.

During the Eric Mona Dragon Magazine period, James Jacobs wrote some material describing "other horrors" that arose in the western Gnarley as a consequence of the rise of ToEE, and given Sobanwych's proximity to those events, it could be a natural fit. I don't recall issue number, nor do I recall if it was Dragon mag or Dungeon mag.

Also, somewhere on wizards.com there's still a James Jacobs article on Grazzt where he makes a passing mention of Sobanwych related Grazzt goings on.

Per Jason Zavoda's GH index, it's also mentioned in TOEE on page 4.

This is all I have of the village. I can't tell where it came from but I think it was from the LG Verbobonc site:

This large village lies along the Forest High Road just as it emerges from the eastern edge of the Gnarley Forest, about nineteen leagues south of Nulb and half way between Verbobonc and Dyvers, via Caltaran. During the days before the Temple of Elemental Evil, Sobanwych was a thriving community which supported the trade from Celene, Verbobonc, the Kron Hills, and beyond. It had grown to a small town of about 800 inhabitants, many of whom have since relocated to either Caltaran or Dyvers. It is little more than a ghost town now, home to roughly 40 families who are clinging to the hope that trade will return. They are at once a downtrodden and hopeful lot and would be beholden to any who attempt to revive the Forest High Road trade. They fish the Serault River and its tributaries and farm the fertile land at the forest’s edge. The villagers pay homage to Wenta, Goddess of the Autumn, West Wind, and Harvest, and there is a large temple dedicated to her in the town square. Most of the town has been abandoned, but many buildings are still in good shape.
