    Prisoner of the Castle Perilous

Hey guys, I just had a quick read of this great adventure by Steven S. Greer and something very odd struck me. Part of the whole backstory for this adventure involves Saint Pentival of Pelor and I assumed that at some point in the adventure the party would meet Pentival or at the least learn his fate. However I have found nothing of the sort in the low-res copy that I downloaded from the Wizard's site. The adventure appears to be complete so I'm a little confused here.

    SPOILER

I suppose that one could assume he was the first victim of the lich/simulacrum of Acererak but this is not explicitly stated.

    END SPOILER

    A little help please?

    Ta.

I noticed that too, and it's what I wrote when I made a wiki article on Pentival - that his current whereabouts are unknown.

He seems to be a red herring as far as the adventure is concerned, but as a DM you might decide he's dead, still hidden away somewhere in the castle, or that he escaped long ago.

I asked Steve Greer that same question and his response is here on the Paizo boards. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way. It's in a spoiler tab of his right after my post (GregH with the Tarrasque avatar.)

Basically he was originally meant to play a bigger part in the adventure, but with each revision it became less and less. I used his suggestion and placed him in the cadaver chamber. I didn't need the body, but my PCs were looking for his long lost holy sword.

Thanks very much. Top clarification. I suppose Pentival will not eventually be making it into the hero-god ranks, since his soul has gone down the proverbial chute Bubba Hotep style Wink

Isn't Castle Perilous supposed to be in Vaasa/Forgotten Realms?
Maybe the Acererak mentioned here was originally Zhengyi the Witch King, and the cleric originally Saint Sollars of Ilmater.

It's an entirely different castle perilous. The 3rd edition Manual of the Planes uses the heading "castles perilous" to describe fortresses in the Negative Energy Plane, which is what this is.

There's no connection to the Forgotten Realms or the H series here (except insofar that Acererak once worshiped Orcus).
