That Infamous Key

That Infamous Key by Mystic Scholar is a quite entertaining start to some Greyhawk fiction.

http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1004

It is an urban tale set in Greyhawk City and he cleverly utilizes the names of certain colleagues here on Canonfire as characters. The plot is a play-through of a certain Dungeon Magazine adventure but I won't spoil any of it for you. Enjoy!

Mortellan has posted some very kind words for my work and they are appreciated. Happy

But then, he took matters even further and linked my story on his own website: http://greyhawkery.blogspot.com/

Shucks man! How on Oerth do you respond to something that awesome? Embarassed

I'll tell you what I decided upon:

In Chapter One of my story, I delivered a message from my "master," Maldin, to a personage at the Sages' Guildhall. I have decided that this personage is none other than "Mortellan" himself, High Elf extraordinaire from Highfolk; Guild Mage, Guild Sage, Guild Lawyer, "Friend of Maldin" (one of my "tutors") and all a round great guy. Surprised

He makes his full appearance in Chapter Three. (Chapter Two is already in the hopper.) So watch for Mortellan's debute!

I sure hope that I do all of my friends here on CF justice. They've all been of great help to me -- in one way or another -- and deserve nothing less.

And I really hope that you all enjoy the story. Happy

Thanks guys. The second story is up, as you can see. Number three is "coming soon." Evil Grin

In all honesty, I'm not completely happy with Part Two. My sister arrived last week from South America and I "rushed" the posting. I really wanted to proof read it once or twice more. Ah, well. Its all good. Wink

But I'll take a few extra days before posting Part Three. Doing some research. I'm keeping my descriptions of the City and environs strictly Canon. But it won't take long. Happy

And thanks again. Hope you're all enjoying it. Cool

Two more "proof reads" and Part Three goes into the hopper. Cool

Part Four is half way finished! You'll soon be "meeting" Mortellan! Shocked Laughing

Part Three is in the hopper! Happy

Part Four is on its way. You'll finally meet Mortellan. And you'll also hear Wolfsire complain about a cleric named Issak, from Hawkburgh, in The Pale. Wink

Wolfsire doesn't know it yet, but Issak, cleric of Pholtus, has chased him to Greyhawk! Shocked

But that's for Part Five, so stay tuned. Evil Grin

Darn it! Part Four is turning out to be too long, so Issak's appearance has been completely moved into Part Five.

Sorry! Embarassed Cool

For those who are asking . . . Part Four is now in the hopper. Parts Five through Seven are ready to go.

I'll post one each week, but that doesn't mean they'll make the front page each week. Shocked

Enjoy!

Nice Job Mystic Scholar!

Another reason to spend more time on CanonFire! Not that I need another excuse. Looking forward to seen the rest and what other villians and heroes may present themselves.

Thanks, DarkHerald! Cool

You know, if you're not careful, you just might make it into the story yourself. I've got "plans" for several of you out there. Wink

For instance, in this very adventure my companions and I will be going to a "C"ertain "F"amous "cartographer" for some maps. She knows who she is. Wink Happy

Oh! And I'll, uh, try my best not to kill any of you off! Evil Grin

Part Five is now in the hopper . . . waiting its turn. Evil Grin

Our very own Theocrat Issak finally makes his debut. He is a young cleric in the story and not yet the Holy Theocrat, so . . .

. . . he's not the furry love-ball we've all come to know. He's rather an intolerant fellow at this point . . . and Wolfsire's nemesis. Evil Grin

Enjoy!

Just a "heads up."

There are going to be changes to my story. I didn't want anyone to think that I had "lost track" of my own story-line.

I'm switching completely to Maldin's map of Greyhawk City, because it is more detailed and is "canon," according to Iquander (Erik Mona).

http://www.melkot.com/locations/cogh/cogh.html

Therefore, on my "walk throughs" of the City, some features and street names will "change." These are deliberate changes and not "clerical" errors/accidents.

Thanks! Happy

The story is being reworked. When it is submitted it will go in the queue, behind one or two articles that were submitted first(suck it Maldin!Razz).

Laughing Thanks Cebrion! Laughing

I asked Cebrion to remove the post. I've only just received the "Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk" book/module. It contains a "canon" description of the Green Dragon Inn. My description didn't match it, so I'm re-working it.

Give me a week and you guys will have it! Promise! Happy

Good enough, M-S.

I've caught a small error or two in my first article after submitting my second, but won't worry about it now. One of a good DM's primary attributes is the ability alter printed material to properly fit his/her own campaing. Razz

Well, we dodged a bullet when I was able to get my computer started again and saved my work "off computer," and onto a Memory stick.

Now, Part 5 has been resubmitted. Its got 5 articles in front of it, but it should get to the Front Page eventually.

There have been changes. As I said, I switched from the map in the City of Greyhawk boxed set, to the interactive map you can find at Maldin's website:

http://www.melkot.com/locations/cogh/cogh.html

This is the map found in the "Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk" module. The changes/differences between maps was done by Maldin and Erik Mona during Erik's final work for WotC.

I'm going to be re-writing the first four parts of the story so that they, too, fit the map located at Maldin's site. These edited stories will be archived at Maldin's and will be know as;

"That Infamous Key"
Version 2.0
The Final Word.

Maldin thought that one up. Wink Laughing Laughing Laughing

And remember, this is the Part in which Theocrat Issak makes his debut. So enjoy Part 5!

Beware MS, "The Final Word" has a nasty habit of becoming "famous last words". Laughing

Or does that just happen to me? Embarassed

Great map link.

Cheers.

Thanks Ragr! Happy

You guys need to check Maldin's map for updates often:

http://www.melkot.com/locations/cogh/cogh.html

As I said, it is the "canon" map from "Expedition" and Maldin is updating it. There are locations in various modules and magazines that are not on any of the maps, such as the Green Daggers guildhall and Meldorp's Locksmithy. These locations are being placed on the map located on Maldin's site.

We are also attempting to place all of the street names located at Gord's Greyhawk:

http://home.comcast.net/~chris.s/gordmain.html

These are the street names found in the Gord novels. Everything isn't going to fit, sadly, since they are, in essence, two different Greyhawks.

But it's going to be interesting. Wink

You where in an alternate green dragon inn and had to reassemble the space time continuum in order for the true Green Dragon Inn to be present once again.

Well, with all that planar travel, he really screws with the whole space-time continuum thing. Evil Grin

Yes, by popular demand (I've been getting this request quite a lot over the past year), and Mystic Scholar's needs, I've finally gotten around to working on a street index map for the City of Greyhawk. So far I'm over 70+ streets named, and still going. ;) I've already scoured the CoG box set (of course), EGG's work, EtGR, some of the Dungeon adventure path backdrop material from Age of Worms, and a few other miscellaneous sources. If anyone knows of any other sources of named CoG streets (one-shot Dungeon adventures, may even consider LG contributions), fire me off a PM or email with the source name and page number if you have it.

Now I'm just saying this here so people elsewhere don't think I've come over all soft, pathetic and, well, Elven.

Despite what I may have written on another thread, I love the stories M-S.

Right, that's as sentimental as it's going to get. I've got to bugger off and wait for that damned Prophet to reply.

BTW, how are the negotiations over my appearance fee going?
