    The Sunless Citadel; A Journal

    Hello everyone,
This is my first time DMing a serious game. All of my players are new to 3.5 and most are new to D&D or tabletop gaming in general. My goal is to provide a fun, but serious and realistic game. This first adventure may or may not tie into the larger campaign... I'm using it as a gauge and a learning experience for all of us as well as a way to allow character experimentation, letting the players figure out what they enjoy.

This first group consists of Solmara the Half-Elf Rogue, a Dwarven Bard, Darlok the Dwarven Fighter and Willby the Halfling Sorcerer. Not the BEST group for the ability to rush through a dungeon, but I think its workable, haha.

Here, I will just be posting the summary for each session.

    22 July 2011:
This week, our heroes came into the forefront of our story, all
arriving in the town of Oakhurst. The newcomers discovered the story
of the Sunless Citadel, though one seemed to know that an ancient
Dragon, Ashardalon, long ago caused the devastation to the nearby
Ashen Plain. It was old news to the half-elf, Solmara, who grew up in
the area, that a group of adventurers disappeared into the Citadel six
months past. They also found out that another man by the name of
Belak passed through the town thirteen years previously heading for
    the Citadel and never returned.

After consuming much drink and staying in town for the night, they
left for the Citadel themselves. They stopped by the general store to
purchase some supplies, then headed out, finally arriving just past
midday. Some quick examination showed the travelers that there was a
rope leading down into the chasm from the remains of some nearby
pillars. The Dwarven Bard lead the way and was soon surrounded by a
    small pack of Dire Rats!

The others made their way down the rope as quickly as possible with
his friend Darlok the fighter even performing some acrobatics to
rescue him, but they were too late. They managed to kill off the rats
thanks to Willby's Magic Missile spell, but the poor Bard was
unconscious when they got to him. He was bleeding out quickly, inches
from death and after unsuccessful first aid attempts from the other
two, Darlok stepped in and even though his knowledge of first aid was
horrid, his knowledge of Dwarven anatomy must have given him some
advantage as he managed to stabilize his friend. Sol was then able to
provide care to help their downed companion recover faster.

Night now approaches and the Bard is still down... The companions must
decide if they will split up to send a runner to town for a healing
potion, or wait it out and use their precious supplies to wait the day
or more for their companion to heal.

    Ahh...

The good old days when rats were more than pests and a real threat. Don't worry to much about allowing all the rules, races, and source material out there. You have your general story and what goals you expect the characters to achieve. If your players are new they won't see anything wrong with your style be loose and enjoy the game. People forget the DM has to enjoy himself as well.

    Keep us posted!

    P.S. Welcome to the boards!

Nice. Sounds real good, LtGreeneyes! Happy

Welcome to Canonfire! Glad you found.

We love these sort of posts and hope you'll continue to keep us updated on your game.

We look forward to your participation and contributions to the site. We're always looking for new talent. You kind find the answer to just about any Greyhawk question here and you'll find the Greyhawk wiki an invaluable tool. It's located on the Home Page in the top right hand corner.

And we do Greytalk every Thursday evening, the link can be found in the left hand column as GREYchat. Wink

I'll beat Cebrion to the punch, however, and tell you that posts such as these -- updates to your game -- should be posted on the forum "Campaign Journals & General Online Play."

Just click on the forums link at the top of the page and scroll down. Can't miss it!

So again, welcome to Canonfire! Cool

    LtGreeneyes here -

Sadly, My game fell apart, haha. Solmara and Willby ended up moving out of town, and I havn't heard from the other two, so this particular journal will probably have to come to a close... I will attempt to start another should I ever DM or take part in a game not on CF. :D

Don't despair, there's a game for you out there. I know you'll start another one and will keep us posted of it.

    Thanks LtGreeneyes.

-Just out of curiosity, where did you set it? I thought that the Principality of Ulek would work- the whole dragon cult thing with the sunless citadel sounds a lot like the Pomarj's dragon cult. FWIW.

I recently ran the Sunless Citadel, and finished it. I have set it in the County of Ulek, with the Forge of Fury set a little further north in the foothills of the Lortmils. Plenty of opportunities to run the remaining mods in the series around that area.

-I guess the County would work, too.
