I don't generally use charge bonus in combat IMC except for creatures that do bonus damage, like charging mounts. So I haven't thought about this to any extent.
I have worked up an analysis of the monk class, between 1st edition PHB, the Dragon Magazine 1st edition revision, and the 2nd edition version presented in Scarlett Brotherhood, compared with a normal fighter who is fighting bare-handed. Perhaps I will post that in the future.
