    Thank you!  I wanted to leave a lot of ambiguity for DMs to work with.  In Lum's case, the reference is to known sources within the game, not metagame. 

    With respect to battle-mages, I do not see them as being allowed into the nobility as that would too easily spiral out of control which we know was not the case.  I see them as specialist auxillaries.  And personally, the whole "battle-mage" idea from 3X strikes me as feeling very post-hoc.  Turath-Moorda (sp) doesn't do it for me, though I appreciate the heck out of (Rich Baker, I think) making the effort.  But YMMV.
