Topic: Spells of Oerth

The priests of the Flanaess control mighty magic through their faith and prayers, often giving them power over the very elements of nature. Here is but one example of that divine magic, a useful incantation that summons forth the element of water to do the priest's bidding.
A 4th level priest spell presented in AD&D 2nd Edition format.

4th level priest spell: Rhiannons Watery Bridge
Sphere: Elemental(water)
Components: V,S,M
Range: 10yds/level
Duration: 1hr/level
Area of Effect: 10'wide x 10'long/level
Casting Time:1 round
Saving Throw: none

By means of this spell, the caster can bring into existence a ten foot wide bridge of water. There must be a body of water,(a river, creek, pond, lake, etc.), to create the bridge across. Once cast, columns of water rise from the source body and fan out to make each ten foot wide by ten foot long section of the bridge. The bridge is safe to tread upon, as it is treated as a stone bridge for movement rates and weight supported. The duration of the bridge is one hour per level, yet the caster can dispel it at any time during it's duration.
Thus, Apple the Pious, an eighth level priestess, coming upon a river that is seventy-five feet across, and being pursued by a band of angry orcs, could cast Watery Bridge and take her wagon load of treasure across the river and dispel it before the orcs can catch up. The spell does not impede the source body or travel on it, except that one would get wet going under the bridge, due to the spells elemental origins.
