Horrors of the Hellfurnaces

http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=886&mode=&order=0&thold=0

The triumphant return of C Wesley Clough to canonfire's frontpage! I like the theme of this article, the Hellfurnaces chain is such a hotbed (pun) for new development. My favorite is the Death Grass (I think I was attacked by some of that in my back yard as a kid). I am sure no adventurer would ever see that coming much less not be stunned when blades of grass attack while sleeping on the ground. Hmm I wonder if this stuff could be transplanted to Ull?

Kudos Wes!

Thanks for the kind words Morte,

It wouldn't suprise me at all if strains of death grass grew in the Ull and Dry Steppe areas actually Wink

Good to see Hellfurnace adventure material without those show-boating Drow worming in. I'm all for a new location chock full of overheated magma beasties. Just lemme craft my Wand of Frost first... Wink

A really nice variety of monsters, and very nicely presented with the narrative. Great format! I hope you do more articles along these lines. Magma Beast Gorgons! Sweet Pelor! Remind me to stay out of the Valley of Mud.

Mort, maybe Pyremius can cross Death Grass with Ullish Hemp? Smile

I love the Steam Drakes! Gonna incorporate them into my current game. Might make a good familiar for one of my wizards. Wink

Good stuff. I love regional creatures; they really add a sense of place to various locations and these were bang on the money. The Steam Drakes were probably my favourite because I always find it hard designing low CR critters that aren't a little fluffy in nature; those guys have got just enough "bite".

Greyhawk references in Cauldron

Please forgive my being a bit behind the curve with this question. Noticed the presence of Cauldron in this article. Are there Greyhawk connections in the Cauldron adventure from Dragon?

Always good to communicate with fellow Greyhawk enthusiasts.

P.S. The Gygax op/ed from the New York Times was wonderful.

Couldron was "officialy" placed in greyhawk on the large 4 part World of Greyhawk map that Dungeon released. The adventures of the Shackled City Adventure Path themselves use greyhawk deities and such, but all in all are not very "greyhawky" in my opinion.

I simply used Cauldron because when they placed it on the map, they did so in such a way as to make it likley that one had to travel through the Hellfurnaces to get there, and that suited my purposes for the article.
