Tides and effects

I though some people may be interested in this subject. I know Aeolius will be, heh.

Sometimes this whole roleplaying thing can frighten me a bit Confused Shocked

That level of mathematics is best left to computers and fantasy.

Some people can't take Anything on faith....

Personally if I need a calculator and a science textbook to play Shocked

The fantasy game has gotten a little to Real for my taste Wink

An interesting page, but the important part for me is at the end:

"From SJR6 Greyspace, Celene seems to be between Oerth and Luna, even if it rotates more slowly. This is not physically possible, and would requiere some magic, whose effect I cannot compute. Moreover, a huge body so near Oerth would cause impossible huge tides. So, I just discarded that old tale."

Nirgal says the information given in Greyspace is not physically possible. What he means to say is that it does not follow Kepler's laws, which arrise from Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation. But so what?

I certainly don't expect the Greyspace planets to follow Newton's Law. That the sun is going around the Oerth should be your first clue. You can play "what if" and try to make Greyspace obey the laws of this universe, but I think that ultimately is rather unsatisfying. IMO, it is preferrable to accept what Greyspace says as true for the realm of Greyspace, and not try to justify it with real world physics explanations. The Oerth and the rest of Greyspace was made by the gods...it follows the Laws they created at the time. End of story.
