Unfortunately or fortunately tales of his demise are a bit early, Dave is still alive but has been moved to hospice care. You can see the update article here:

Sadly, Grognardia has announced that the news is accurate. At least he had one more day :(

Truly a sad day. Though his name may not be as immediately recognizable as Mr. Gygax's to the mainstream, all those millions who enjoyed the DnD CRPGs or, heck, even the millions who play WoW owe a great debt to individuals such as Mr. Arneson.

Mr Arneson will be missed. He was very much apart of what made D&D what it is today.
I see the old Masters gathering around a table and playing the games that sourced D&D, together as good friends, as they did in their younger years.
Rest in Peace Mr Arneson.
Thank you for your inspirations and ideals.

There was a nice little article from one of the writers of the National Review that wrote up why he still follows D&D. This was from the 30th anniversery of the game. Worth a read.

So you end up in the Great Beyond now, and you have a choice...
Greyhawk with E.G.G OR Blackmoor with Dave
Toughest call ever. But glad they wrote the worlds that make the choice hard. Gary has been and Dave will be missed.

I decided to quit my 4th edtion group which I was displeased with anyway, and am going to run a greyhawk/blackmoor campaign in honor of the old masters. All material is classic in nature and I have new young players who are excited about it. I start it this coming Wednesday with the Keep on the Borderlands.
Thank you Mr. Arneson for all these great years and a fun hobby to lose myself in. Now you and Gary and co. can play in heaven.
God Bless.
Jim
