Iggwilv was... [spoiler warning]

... Tasha?

I just read in the Wikipedia article for the Company of Seven (Zagyg's adventuring company) that Tasha was a member and she was secretly Iggwilv! Can someone point me to the canon source for this?

Thanks,
Don

PM Rasgon, he wrote the wiki article, along with Robbastard. They'll know. Cool

OMG!! Spoiler alert!!

OMG. Well, you've put a rather big spoiler in your title.

Just for sake of mentioning it, it is generally considered polite not to label a post with a Spoiler. Also ... it's generally better if you put something like [Spoiler Alert] in the title, and also in big letters at the top of the post. Some people put it more than once, and tab down quite a few lines so that it can't be seen as soon as the post opens up.

Spoiler Alert!

There are plenty of people that aren't aware of the Tasha/Igggwilv connection. But, it's found in Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk.

Spoilers here...

I don't know if there is an earlier source, but it is definitely mentioned in Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk.

[edit] whoops, I was a little slow on the draw :)

It's stated specifically in Dragon #359, page 30. It's implied in Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk (because Iggwilv's good mirror-universe counterpart is called Ahsat).

D'OH! I'm SO sorry. I never expected the source to actually be in an adventure. I was sure that I knew them all by heart already, but no, I have yet to fully peruse the adventure in question. CRAP.

Not to be outdone by Rasgon...
Tasha is the shortened version of Nastasha. Iggwilv is actually Natasha the Dark from the much older Dragon Mag #83 module, The Dancing Hut by Roger Moore. So as it has become written since 3e, Baba Yaga is the adopted mother of Iggwilv/Tasha. Note that Baba Yaga likes to pick up and 'adopt' daughters in other worlds due to her traveling Hut. It would not be out of the realm of possibility that Ahsat was also a daughter of BY since in the The Dancing Hut she once took in a good magic-using girl named Elena(?) the Fair.

Wait, does that mean that The Dancing Hut is actually canonical GH?

I don't know if its "canonical" to GH, but its "real" . . . "real" in the sense that Baba Yaga and her hut are from Russian/Slavic mythology, so no one "owns" them.

But, you probably already knew that. Sorry if I stated the obvious. Happy

The 2e mod of the Dancing Hut has little in the way of GH connections to use, but I still like it. The old 1st edition mod like most 1st edition materials was always a good fit in Greyhawk to begin with and so could easily be semi-canonical when the Tasha-B.Y. tie is made hundreds of issues later. Mind you it was just serendipity really and the fact Moore wrote TDH and also had a heavy hand in GH development means little.

Note that in Paizo's Golarion setting, Baba Yaga and her "daughters" also make an appearance. Every 100 years, Baba Yaga installs one of her adopted daughters to the throne of the nation of Irrisen, where she rules as the witch-queen (the current is Elvanna, Fourteenth Daughter of Baba Yaga). After the allotted century, she reclaims her daughter and takes her to some alternate world. So Iggwilv could have ruled as Witch-Queen of Irrisen for a century before coming to Oerth (though that wouldn't make her a native of Golarion; I don't think any of that nation's rulers are natives to that planet).

I would say yes, Dragon #359 makes the "Dancing Hut" adventure in Dragon #83 Greyhawk-canonical.

And the Tasha-Iggwilv connection isn't really very important to the plot of Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk; it's more of an easter egg, really.

Yep. It is not a spoiler as it has no bearing on the adventure at all.

Unless I'm mistaken, didn't Gary & the Boys dabble with BY a tiny bit back in Lake Geneva? Or am I thinking of something else?

Oh, and I believe the Iggwilv-Tasha connection was Erik Mona's baby (much to Chatdemon's chagrin), but I could be mistaken about that, too.

You are correct, but as far as how or why that concerns me, water under the bridge that few, if any care about anymore, so we'll not elaborate. Cool

In a related topic, Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk didn't include stats for Ashat, should the PCs choose to raise her. Anyone have any idea what they would be?

I can figure a rough estimate from the other six but...

Ah. Perhaps that was a bit indiscreet of me. Forgive me. It was not my intention to reopen old wounds or restart old fires.

However, I do like your take on Tasha much better, CD, since it is far more believable and fits better with the setting. IMHO, at least.

Bubbagump, you make me regret tht I never saw CD's version of that. Sad

However, if it "opens old wounds" then we will most certainly "let sleeping dogs lie." Wink

You do do good work Chatdemon. Happy

Ok Chatdemon. Your story was pretty good, I agree with Bubbagump. But your Tasha was born on Fireseek 15 in 558 CY, is that correct?

Then when was Iuz born? Confused

Im not sure, but for the purposes of my article, I don't see why it's important. Tasha as I wrote her (a year or two before any of the "canon" stuff on her came out) has no ties at all to Iuz or Iggwilv, and is only related to Xagig as a fairly distant descendant, not a contemporary or adventuring partner.

Ahh! Did not know when your article came out in relation to Canon material.

Yes, I like your version of Tasha much better than the Canon stuff, which never quite seemed to work for me. Excellent job. Happy

I like CD's Tasha much better as well. I do prefer my higher npc's (Mordy, Iggs and others) history to be the property of the DM. Though the Tasha connection to Iggs was interesting I found it to fell more like name dropping than anything. In other words, I don't use it.

Speaking of the dancing hut of baba yaga,i bought a second hand copy fairly cheap a couple years ago, almost mint...........almost! except somebody used an orange highlighter on several pages which i'm wondering,is there anyway to remove this crap without removing the print???This is worse than that damned cobra sticker!!!! I very much doubt you can get orange highlighter off paper.

I would think it would add to the charm of having a book people have used before, though. I have a copy of Brave New World that someone marked up for a class, and I really like it. The only thing better than highlighted passages and hand-written notes is black-and-white illustrations other people have colored in.

You can try Q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol and then lightly rub the orange highlighted areas with them. This is an old military trick for removing highlighted routes off maps without doing too much damage to them. Doesn't work on all highlighters but worth a try. Just don't use too much alcohol though.
