It's a new year and time to get a fresh thread going for the comic. In order to get newer readers off to a good start I've decided to try and reorganize some of my main "themes" and "storylines" so that they are readable outside the normal posting order. Any other reccomendations are appreciated. Home page The Graz'zt Show Cultist Saga Gods in Space World of Golarion Greylore Cover Parodies

Good job, Mort. This reorganization is going to make it very easy for new Canoneers to catch up on your work.
And I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with in this new year. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Very nice and thanks for introducing Maldin's work.
But, I have to say, Lolth's reporting was way off. It wasn't the cultists that sank Doom, Nakimas just had some gas. _________________ Plar of Poofy Pants

Anyone take a stab at identifying the Lords of Evil yet?

Ok... I'll take a wild stab at it. I swear I do NOT have inside information!
1 Surtur
2 Azmodeus
3 Shaktari
4 Incabulos
5 Nerull
6 Syrul
7 Grummsh
8 Meyanok
9 Kurtulmak
I'm pretty sure I've seen 1 and 8 somewhere in your comics before, but I can't find them!

Alright! The game is afoot. Here is my answer so far.
1. Not Surtur, I avoided giant gods. My hint for #1 is he has never been seen in W.o.G before but he is a D&D god.
2. Correct. The Ruby Rod and the curly goat are the clues. Good job.
3. Shakira-wha? No Maldin but nice guess. This goddess has appeared in W.o.G before. Try again.
4. Incabulos, a given.
5. Nerull, also a given due to prior episodes.
6. Syrul. Correct. She's been in W.o.G many times and her hag-nose is unmistakable.
7. Gruumsh. Also correct. Lords of Evil gotta represent the orcs after all.
8. Wrong subrace. This god has appeared in W.o.G before.
9. Not Kurtulmak, probably the second hardest to guess next to #1. But the answer is closer than you think.

I'd guess the following for those yet unrevealed:
1) Zarus, God of Human Racial Superiority from Races of Destiny
3) Beltar in her Marilith form
8) Mictlantecuhtli, Olman God of Death
9) Meyanok, Touv God of Serpents, Discord, Famine, Darkness and Poison (previously thought to be #8 by Maldin)

Dayyum kwint! I thought Zarus would've kept everyone busy for longer. :P
Yeah he is depicted as a handsome man with golden glowing skin. He is in there for GVD cause I know he'd get a kick out of that.
Meyanok was a tricky one, I needed a Touv deity represented (even though I swore I'd never use em) and wikis tell me that he appears as a snake coiled around a skull, which in the same entry is the same description as its holy symbol. Rather redundant but okay that was the clue.
Beltar of course can appear as many things. A Marilith was one of the few that would fit on the panel. (Dragon, Beholder)
Mict of course appeared in Gods in Space. In hindsight I should've used Camazotz a bat god. Too much snake in that picture. One last thing, its crazy how many of the "Olman" gods are evil. Why is that?

Doh!! I knew that #3 was a marilith, forgot that Beltar had a marilith form, and was wondering why you hadn't used Beltar. I claim a half point! And a half point on Meyanok. ;)

I thought it might be him because of the illustrations in RofD, but you confirmed it when you said it was a "D&D god" and not necessarily a Greyhawk god...

"Don't split the party" is a common mantra for RPGs who like to play it safe. It's also never done that way in any novel, movie or comic I've ever seen. |
The Starfleet Field Manual actually says that in a situation involving danger or hostility, any away team with at least one officer must be composed of as many of the ship's high-ranking officers as possible, so as to not split the command structure. Only non-essential personal are to remain on the ship.

By extension, since dragons are hoarders and must sometimes go far afield to find more treasure for heroes to take, this means that they may not even be in the same zipcode as their lair when randomly encountered. |
By extension, there must then be a chance to encounter the horde while the dragon is far away! _________________ My campaigns are multilayered tapestries upon which I texture themes and subject matter which, quite frankly, would simply be too strong for your hobbyist gamer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mp7Ikko8SI

Ah that explains it. Would redshirts be the equivalent of goblin henchmen in this case?

Hi all -
[uck, that was long. I love the picture of Rasgon, and that is EXATCLY how I imagine him - with all that Greyhawk Knowledge.
I only have one quibble with it all. Well, actually I might have more quibbles if I had "demonic" enhanced knowledge like Rasgon (Because although Pholtus doesn't believe in other gods, he has a wild imagination, which allows him to permit other gods and demons, but not obscure rules or even more obscure Greyhawk Lore). My quibble is the "Ivid the Undying" picture. Because I happen to have a picture of the actual product. Erik Mona actually produced it while he was with WotC/TSR (likely given to him by Lisa "Greyhawk MegaBabe" Stevens - who was the 90's Greyhawk Brand Manager).
I've uploaded the 3 pictures to your site.
Front of Ivid the Undying
Back of Ivid the Undying
Erik provided this picture to be what he thought the cover artwork should be. However, I've always thought the picture looked my in line with Iuz than what I imagined what Ivid would look like (besides, that throne doesn't look like Malachite [a green stone]).
I'm sure Erik provided these on the WotC forums - I think it was around the time that the LGG was produced, but I can't be sure.
Be Well. Be Well Undying.

I prefer this picture to the current PDF cover floating about:
It was simple to mock up in Photoshop. The product code fonts were based on those of products from that time, but the title font was of my choosing. I think it evokes the right feel. _________________ - Moderator/Admin (in some areas)/Member -

Awesome, Mort! Totally awesome!
Things I hadn't "known" before and cool memories, all rolled into one. Great stuff!
And we all appreciate you giving Rasgon a "new" avatar, one more in line with his actual -- or imagined -- appearance!
Just having fun with you, Grey Sage!

Theocrat For the WIN!

Hi All -
I do declare that if I do not win - I will pull the plug on this whole damn thing.
I'm not just talking to Mort here - I'm talking to all you heathens.
If you do not vote for Pholtus to win the whole damn tournament....WoG Comic goes the way of the Dodo bird (not Ice Age the movie style either).
In fact, here it is and why Pholtus will win....he doesn't believe in the other gods - thus there is no way they can beat him. When he goes against Celestian, there is no competition. Celestian would walk away from the court anyway. Next up, Vatun is a made up god by a demi-god (right, or is the Theocrat thinking that wrong?).
So no matter what Pholtus wins.
The vote better be rigged, jigged and multi-voted for Pholtus to win or Else, WoG goes away....I have Theocratic powers!
Be Well. Be Well Voted.
Theocrat Issak
P.S. It is a serious threat too.....serious I say....serious...delusional _________________ Theocrat Issak

Hi all -
COMPLAINT TIME......did you see the WoG Comic main page? The icon section leading to the latest comic is of Wee Jas, that little tart. So this is some conspiracy - putting her sexy little tartness on the front page so that people will subconsciously vote for her. Well NO. I won't stand for this non-sense. Mort either puts Pholtus on the cover page or he does something else - but I will not stand (or sit at the desk and rant with my keyboard) for this crap.
I didn't notice this in my last post or else I would have ranted in that post - but if this isn't changed, then I'm going to use my very delusional Theocratic powers on the WoG comic Web site and then you'll all be sorry. And trust me...we don't want that - because if we want Mort to go back 300 episodes, he needs all the support we can give him - but that won't be necessary if I don't get my way.
Be Well. Be Well Pholtused.

So? Sixteen picks, eh? A "winner" from each? Ok . . .
Wee Jas, Kord, Norebo, Lendor, Zilchus, Heironeous, Fharlanghn, Oldamara, Zagyg, Mayaheine, Obad-hai, Pelor, Rao, Boccob (duh) and for my friend, the all powerful Theocrat -- Pholtus!
The sixteenth pair is a coin toss, but I'll go with Wastri, since he seems to like humans. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Theocrat: Whoops! Hey other media don't get chided when they show their marquee talents. Would the PGA not show Tiger Woods for the Masters? Unthinkable! Well okay, thats a bad comparison but you get my drift.
Mystic: Thanks for the entry. Good to see Theocrat has someone on his side. ;)

Quick question here, Mort: Are we supposed to vote for our favorite deities, or which ones we honestly think would win?
Also, you're mean for pitting Fharlanghn and Delleb against each other. I like them both, plus, they're buds!....ish.

Talin: What Mystic said. There is no good way to gauge it. For example if Theocrat wants to start a drive to get Pholtus to win his bracket, more power to him. We know which are more popular in fandom, but online polls/contests can sometimes surprise ya.

Hi all -
Oh, I'm not starting a drive for Pholtus to win...I'm pushing some threats here...Lets get that right, right now. I don't want no hussy tart winning when she shows some leg and Cleveland (yeah, that's what I call it so I don't get busted when looking at that sweet spot between the boo...oops).
If you don't vote for Pholtus to win the whole damn tournament...there's going to be some damage done. Let Me Tell You. I'm not just ranting my delusional rants here....Pholtus will win, or you will all be damned...
Be Well. Be Well in Cleveland!

Alrighty...
Wee Jas vs. Bralm: Wee Jas (Bralm? Seriously?)
Kord vs. Vatun: Kord. Chaotic Good is more awesome than CN. Also, not trapped in some undisclosed location.
Norebo vs. Syrul: Norebo. Fortune favors the bold...
Lendor vs. Pyremius: Enh, I'll say Lendor, cuz he fathered a number of other deities for whom I'm casting my vote. But he's not really a riot at parties, I'd wager.
Tharizdun vs. Olidammara: Olidamarra! Gee, do I cast vote for the being that will end EVERYTHING, or the charming cutie who just bought a round of drinks for everyone? This is a tough one.
Incabulous vs. Boccob: Boccob. Boccob may not care, but that means he also doesn't care enough to go out of his way to spread disease and misery. This is a plus in my book. Also, I dig the art for him in Deities & Demigods.
Zagyg vs. St. Cuthbert: Zagyg. Zagyg is a loon, but Cuthbert's hats are silly.
Wastri vs. Raxivort: Heehee, okay, this is probably the fairest matchup so far. I'll say Wastri, because the phrase "The Hopping Prophet" cracks me up just about every time.
Hextor vs. Zilchus: Hextor. LE villains are often the most interesting, IMHO, and since they, too, are interested in preserving order, this can lead to one of those "teaming up with your enemies against a greater threat" plotlines. That said, if we could keep Hextor in his pale, dark-haired bishonen form, rather than his, er, less esthetically pleasing "war form," that would make me all the happier.
Pholtus vs. Celestian: Celestian. Sorry, Theocrat. I have enough confidence in your rallying abilities that I realize Celestian may not stand a chance, but I must vote with my heart.
Heironeous vs. Erythnul: Heironeous. His followers can get a bit smite-happy at times, but a true embodiment of justice has to trump mindless carnage.
Fharlanghn vs. Delleb: They are both so awesome I seriously don't know which one to choose. I'll abstain for the time being.
Iuz vs. Mayaheine: Mayaheine. Cute ascended hero-goddess FTW. Iuz gets tricked and trapped so often that he'd be the Distressed Damsel of the gods, if anyone liked him enough to rescue him, that is. ;)
Obad-Hai vs. Beory: Wha? No Ehlonna? Blasphemy. Anyway, I'll vote Beory, since she seems like slightly less of an uncaring d-bag than Obad-hai.
Nerull vs. Pelor: Pelor. Pelor brings light, hope, and the possibility of redemption. Nerull may win out in the end, but Pelor shows us that life can at least temporarily triumph over death.
Vecna vs. Rao: I want to vote Rao because of what he represents, but Vecna just brings so many interesting aspects to the world. Vecna then. Subtle corruption based on finding the "seed of evil" in all beings is creepy and cool. He serves as a reminder of the truly destructive power of lies and secrets.
Phew! That was a heckuva lot of gods!

Well played Talin. I will only comment that Ehlonna wasn't added because she is comsidered a 'common' deity on the lists not Flan. I could've had her go up against Wastri sure, demihuman vs amphibian-man, but in the end I couldn't resist using Raxivort either. Tough choices for 32. Imagine Theocrat's ire if Pholtus had been omitted!

Bralm over Wee Jas - Just because "Wee Jas" is such a baaaaad name.
Vatun over Kord - 'Cuz I've never really liked jocks.
Norebo over Syrul - Because 'Syrul' always makes me think of the FR for some weird reason.
Lendor over Pyremius - Because I never get tired of those old Lendore Isles mods.
Zilchus over Hextor - Because I'm soooo tired of hearing about Hextor. He sucks.
Pholtus over Celestian - Because Pholtus gets a bad rap due to the heretics in the Pale. He's actually a great guy.
Hieroneous over Erythnul - Because he deserves to win. SOMEBODY needs to stand up for what's right and good on Oerth.
Fharlanghn over Delleb - In spite of the fact that LG overused him.
Tharizdun over Olidammara - Because I don't like drunken pretty-boys, either.
Boccob over Incabulos - Though this one is pretty close.
Zagyg over Cuthbert - Out of respect for Gary, and because I dig Zagyg's hat collection.
Wastri over Raxivort - Because I'm always pulling for the short fat guy.
Iuz over Mayaheine - Because I hope to kill him myself someday.
Obad-Hai over Beory - Because I'm always pulling for the henpecked, underappreciated outdoorsy type, too.
Pelor over Nerull - (see Hieroneous above)
Rao over Vecna - Because he's the closest analog to my own deity (and see Hieroneous above)

It's been a slow but decent enough turnout to work with. I am looking into a new method of voting for round 2 where the stakes are greater.
Thanks for the entry bubba. Any more takers? Keep em coming.

Pholtus has a Movie Career

Hi all -
OK, since I can't just vote Pholtus on all boards...although it is by a wide margin a no contest, I'll add a bit more.
Bralm over Wee Jas - hot tartness with firey red hair with massive attitude or Bralm 2.0 called Calistra in WoG 2.0 in which she is a hooker? Easy...always take the easy girls. Wee Jas would make you take her to a nice resturant, dinner and a movie and still won't put out on the drive home. If she did, though, I think she'd be hot in the back seat.
Kord over Vatun - I like how Mort draws Kord and I repainted the WotC Aspect of Kord miniature. Plus isn't Vatun made up by Iuz anyway.
Norebo over Syrul - I like that Norbebo hooks up with many goddess - Quantity over Quality
Lendor over Pyremius - Lendor runs a Pathfinder game and allowed Pholtus to take over Heironeus's character Iomedae's and begin the schism and inquisition in Mendev that begins to take place. Besides, I don't see a Pyremius picture.
Olidammara over Tharizdum - because Oly is mentioned in the D&D movie. Plus who wants a dark, creepy guy to win?
Incabulous over Boccob - mainly because it's cooler to say Incabulous over Bobcob (which I always do), besides Boccob is likely reviewing his own March Madness chart after all the upsets this weekend to even notice that he was also in a contest.
Zagyg over st. cuthbert - He's not even a real god, he's just some churches saint. Besides, look in the rules from 2e to 3e - he frickin' outright stole Tritheron's folder. Same with that hussie Wee Jas stealing stuff, and cuthie is supposed to be a good guy? They walk around knocking on people's heads - just minding their own business (I know your counter argument - the Pholtine's go around throwing people on the fire - yes, but they are HERETICS, convert or die). Plus who doesn't like the old crazy coot uncle that stands up at the Thanksgiving Dinner and says "I gotta pee" and he attempts to climb on the table?
Raxivort over Wastri - A human that thinks he's a toad? Come on, Man! Plus Raxi is cool, a little blue rodent looking thing. Besides, it looks like Wastri is mostly naked and only wears pants because Wee Jas threatened him with John Wayne Bobett syndrome.
Zilchus over Hextor - Zilly would just say something like "By rule number 16, subsection A13, testament 4a you must give me a head start on initiative by three times the number of fingers on your left arms and four times the number of fingers on your right arms divided by the total number of arms you have on both sides plus the number of toes that are on your right foot multiplied by the number of toes on your left foot - and you must also include any and all Aspects that also have your powers. While I realize that this may take some time, I will permit you to take all the time you need to figure this out. Plus don't forget to roll your d20 and subtract your weapon speed on each weapon." [Zilchus would most likely mix 1st and 3rd edition rules on initiative, himself rolling a d10 and going for the lower number]
Pholtus for the WIN. Plus remember that choose your own adventure DVD movie? It has a priest of Pholtus. What's Celestian got? Besides, a whole nation of 'heretics' really isn't hereitical anymore when there are more LN followers than there are of the other churches. Besides, only Pholtus allows clerics of LG, LN and LE to get spells - not even the "greater gods" can match that. So Suck It.
Erythnul over Heironeous - I always spell Heronenous wrong. Plus Erythunul's WoG saying is Covet Thy Neighbor...which if he has a hawt wife/girlfriend/dog/short sword/whatever I say go for it.
Delleb over Fharlanghn - Dellb should have gone against Boccob as both are book lovers. Although, I should say that Delleb would most likely also be checking his references to see if UNI would really beat Kansas in a statistical battle and would likely not even notice that he'd gone on to the next level. However, Fharly would likely have walked away from the court after Delleb started with "By Rule number 16, subsection A13......."
Mayaheine over Iuz - remember when CanonFire didn't exist and we all used GreyTALK e-mail? Well back in the mid-90's we all called her Myhinnie because she was cute. Sure she's only cute on Rao, but she's still a looker. Downside is that in the WoG comic she looks like Joan of Arc. But then that movie was OK and she was hawt.
Obad-hai over Beory - Beory is in the kitchen makin' me some Pie. Obad-Hai was elevated to Greater God of all Nations in Dungeons and Dragons the movie and Dungeons & Dragons Wrath of the Dragon King. Him and Jublilex were mentioned like every other word. You even had to burn the Obad-Hai journal/bible/Mage's book. I mean Mage's were worshiping this dude. Must be the tree's - because there were a lot of tree's back in the day, unlike now.
Nerull over Pelor - Well like in Legend of the Seeker, the Keeper gets everybody in the end...which really makes no sense. You worship and work towards a goal of the Maker, but the only way to really support the Maker is to have babies, which will end up dying thus giving the Keeper more people. Plus you keep killing people, which seems counter to the overall goal of the Maker and only furthers the Keeper's powers. Pelor can shine his light right on down to the Keeper's cottage.
Vecna over Rao - Vecna For the Win, Hands Down! Pun! Remember the Graphic Novel about Pholtus and Vecna? I only remember bits of it and I'm not going to go out and dig it out. But who else has hand their own graphic novel published by some foreign company?
Be Well. Be Well Bracketed.

"Scourge of Worlds," "Dungeons and Dragons" and "Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God" -- good stuff!
I really liked the interactive "Scourge of Worlds," only one path led to a winning scenario. And the fighter/warrior Regdar -- from the T.H. Lain novels -- was trained by the Pholtan warrior cleric.
And I can attest that Bubbagump really does get along well with short fat people! _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Pholtus Is a Movie Star...helps his Theocrat

Hi all -
As Pholtus is a Movie Star, he hooked me up with the movie quotes.
'you're going to need a bigger gun' - is a spoof of the line ''you're going to need a bigger boat'. Bigger Gun is used by Roy in the movie Jaws.
'I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought' - Dr. Egon says this to Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters.
Because of this, Pholtus gets 2 extra votes for him. But he should be able to earn some extra votes for next week's battle - one of the twins will be on the chopping block next.
As The Greyspace Sphere is 16 Billion miles across - with Oerth squarely in the middle, it's a quesstimate that Ginsel is the planet that is about 3 Billion miles away. Besides, it has a giant hamster sized bite taken out of it.
Be Well. Be Well Quoted.

Regarding the God-Off....
Wow!! I think I missed only ONE in that last competition! Since I'm feeling so prescient (comes with the territory, ya know, I mean with me having the Codex and all), let me make some predictions about the next competition that show a spooky pattern. Its gonna be...
The Tart vs. the Father Figure
Brother vs. Brother
The Master vs. the Student
The New Evil vs. the New Good (as far as the ages of the gods go)
Cool.
But what's SUPER-cool, is that mort finally pulled off my suggestion months ago for the cultists/Gods-in-Space crossover! As I pitched it to him last year... what could ever be cooler than Tharizdun, the Codex, and Spelljammer all in the same comic. A Perfect Storm!!!! Bwaahahahahaa!!!!

As for your predictions, Maldin, well you may be onto something there...but as of this posting it is Wednesday morning and a few of the matches are still knotted up-close. Anyone who hasn't voted go to the last comic and check it out. The gods of GH need you!

Nice, Mort. Really nice.
I see that the Holy Father -- err, I mean the Holy "Theocrat" -- is trying to upset the process . . . again! Reminds me of the Spanish Inquisition's Tomás de Torquemada.
I bookmarked the Ull page you provided, I'll return to it often. Thanks! _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Love the comics Mort. Your just too much my friend. I think all the "love" is going to carry Zagyg to the top.
But that's just me. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Hi all -
I totally didn't realize that with Mort's new voting scheme that you could vote multiple times. As such, Pholtus should be back, because I woulda voted like a BAZILLION times.
So, again, this is all a sham. PHOLTUS WINS.
Damn, that little tart bytch is still alive in the tournament.

Damn! That didn't occur to me!
Boccob would still be in the running too!
Theocrat, we'll get him next time he tries this! _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

It didn't even occur to me to vote multiple times. Cuz that would be dishonest, right? (maybe Good is a little dumb, at that, she suggests self-deprecatingly.) And a victory by cheating would be a hollow victory indeed...unless the god is evil, I guess. Then they might like a victory by cheating even better...
This has been a fun event, Mort! Thanks for hosting it. I think it would be cool if we continued to have the occasional event 'round these parts, to drum up a little excitement every now and then.

Hi all -
Voting multiple times equates to evil? No way, sister...we're in a contest for the GREATEST GOD OF GREYHAWK....it's either vote your way out of a paper bag or get the car door slammed against your head multiple times.
Had I noted the multiple votes earlier, I would have voted a bazillion times for Pholtus and Vecna, and not told anybody so that then Pholtus could beat Vecna out in the end. Thus the rest of this contest is a sham. Although, I do hope Mr. Xagyg wins, after all, his patron did vote for him, and well he was Governor of Greyhawk City and imprisoned nine gods (but not Pholtus). Xagyg vs Nerull is how I have the final count coming down.
Be Well. Be Well Hard-Headed.

Ah Theocrat, you wiley character you. The fact is I had to sign up for a new (free) account to handle the entry load for the next two rounds of the tourney. When I did I forgot to set the form to one vote per IP number. As such tonight I had to sign up for -another- free account to get us through this round and we'll see about the last. I'd be fine with open voting but the site only allows me so many entries per account per month. Not enough for one week contests if you ask me.

I honestly don't care that much who wins at this point, all my favorites have already been voted off the island. I voted for Wee Jas because she showed some skin. ;)
And I feel like "riding with the Theocrat" should be a euphemism for something, but I haven't figured out what that something is yet.

If you noticed my "signature," you'll know that my favorite has been voted off too.
And its a western euphemism Talin. It refers to being on horseback and riding the range together as friends, through thick and thin. Jesse James and Cole Younger "rode together."
And I believe that you were dishonest and are well aware of your Brokeback Mountain analogy. That was both ugly and completely uncalled for. And has no place on CF.
I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but you've certainly gone down a couple of notches in my esteem with your -- as I perceive it -- unprovoked verbal attack. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

...um, what? I was making a light-hearted comment of a very general nature (still haven't even seen Brokeback Mountain, btw); what you read into it is your deal, not mine. Not really feeling as though I'm benefiting from your doubt over here.
For the record, I was thinking "riding with the Theocrat" might make the most sense in a phrase like, "Weep not for him, Martha; he rides with the Theocrat now," or something in that vein. (Not like I think Theocrat = Death either, I just thought it sounded funny.) It is always of course my great hope that someone else will find an amusing innuendo to read into something, which I freely admit. No attack on ANYONE, though. I will attack to defend myself, if necessary, but (forum?)wars of aggression aren't really my scene.

Thank you Talin. I freely and sincerely offer my apologies for my misunderstanding.
My euphemism steams from Saturday morning westerns. And I haven't seen -- and don't intend to see -- Brokeback Mountain either.
Again, I thank you for your clarification and apologize for any affront I may have given.
Nice analogy by the way. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

I wish I'd been back to W.O.G. to see this contest going on sooner! Well, congrats, Mort, you made something interesting enough happen to get me to come back and post on Canonfire again!
This got me to thinking about which is my favorite Greyhawk god and I was surprised to find I not only can't choose one -- I can't narrow my list below 15!

Scottenkainen (and others), which gods are your favorites? 15 seems like a pretty long list, but to each his own, I s'pose. If this would be considered thread derailment, I can start one up elsewhere, but, you know, since we're all here and thinking about GH gods, it seems as good a place as any.
Mine are, in no particular order: Olidammara, Rudd, Lirr, Lydia, Fharlanghn, Mhyriss, Zodal. These are the deities I would worship, were I native/transported to Oerth. I also like Hextor and Heironeous (and I totally dig the heretical sect that worships them both), and have recently become a bit of a fan of Vecna. Hextor and Heironeous are fun because under certain circumstances, one could count a Hextor-worshipper as an ally; under others, a Heironean could be a terrifying foe. I've never been in a game which featured Pholtus, but I'm sure he and his clergy could also fill an interesting ally/antagonist role. I never gave much heed to Vecna before, but after my experiences in the Age of Worms campaign, I have come to understand the destructive power of secrets. Thanks, Darl Quethos, you Magnificent Bastard you.

Hey Scott! Glad to see I have sparked your Greyhawk thinking muscles. 15 eh? Yeah I think I'd have a hard time choosing a definitive favorite too. My choices as it is are divided between comic appeal and game appeal. Thinking back, I have a bias for certain gods in the comic for various reasons(like they are easy to draw or make fun of) but there are many that I've never used or maybe just once. And half of those I'm sure I've never even touched in a game situation! Sometimes I get tired of certain deities in comic and game. I used to do alot of comic with Vecna and before that he was also in my games alot in 2e, now I hardly use him in either. Then there is Iuz, who I do like, but I overused him so much in my campaigns that it led to his general exlusion in the comic from the very start.
I think overall I like the neutral deities more than evil or good, and possibly good the least. And further muddling the choices If I were like Talin and had to actually worship one, I'd love to revere one of the quasi-deities before most full gods. Who wouldn't want to be a swordsman of Kelanen or a gun toting paladin of Murlynd?
Now if I could BE a greyhawk deity that's easy. I'd be Norebo. ;)

Beory, Pelor, Rao, Zilchus, Cyndor, Wee Jas, Celestian, Delleb, Ehlonna, Fharlaghn, Gesthai, Heironeous, Hextor, Pholtus, and Zagyg -- and I didn't even think about quasi-deities! As for why those, I'm saving that for a blog entry.

It should be pointed out that Lendor was showing more skin than Wee Jas, but in the end that was not enough.
What GH diety would I actually worship? Hmm...

Scott: Cyndor, that's a rare choice. Why him if I may ask?
Kirt: Hah! Yes indeed Lendor does show more skin. Hm, I wonder if his hair was always white?
Hugh Jas? She does not speak of him, he is a stain on her reputation.
