Humanoids' Coinage

Do any of the humanoids (i.e. kobolds, goblins, orcs, hobgoblins, bugbears, ogres, gnolls, etc.) mint their own coins?

The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer mentions that the Pomarj has "various official and unofficial currencies, some out of date, manufactured by most cities, towns, and major nonhuman tribes." So apparently yes, at least in the Pomarj. In the Bone March they just use Great Kingdom coinage.

It takes a large and complicated economy to mint coins, so...

1) I would say that most humanoids make use of coinage minted by more advanced civilizations.

2) They also cut, or break, pieces off of statues and other art objects made of precious metal to use as payment. Such pieces can be cut small and pounded flat with a hammer to make coin-like pieces of valuable metal.

3) Some large, advanced communities of humanoids (like the orc communites of Garek Enkdal in the Griff Mountains and Harrgrek Kukulend east of the City of Greyhawk) may very well mint their own coins just as human and demi-human cities do.

This question makes me think of the scene in Ride With the Devil when some of the border ruffians are playing cards and betting with scalps.

"I'll bet two elf scalps."

"I'll see your bet and raise you a dwarf scalp."

Which raises the question, when you scalp a dwarf, do you take the hair on his head or his chin? Evil Grin

I suppose orcs could use the gronch as their currency, like they do in the comic Orc Stain.

There is a scalp, and there is a beard. Each may have differing values, but each could have a value.

Well, there's always that possibility.
