Beyond the Flanaess Rant

I had someone ask me my opinion on BtF and it's a complicated issue, lol

Whereas I know that a lot of people's least favorite development in the history of Perth is the Greyhawk Wars...mine is, without question, the expanded Dragon Annual #1 map. It is my bête noire, an abomination in my eyes to be ignored and discredited at all costs! I have long, in my own Campaigns, characterized that map as a piece of misinformation. Something that any sage of repute would easily dismiss as ridiculous!

(My apologies to those of you who enjoy it. Obviously, this is just my opinion on the matter. As ever: Vive la différence!)

To be honest, a fan project that created a map of Oerth not based on the Dragon Annual map would be really interesting.

Is this map from a Dragon Annual? If so, which on?

It's not from an official source; it's an image manipulation by me, a combination of a Kara-Tur map and the Oerik map from the 1983 boxed set.

Perfect job Rasgon ol buddy! That's exactly how I imagined it and opens the Baklunish lands up to the rest of the world.

Oh yes. This is so much like how I imagined it too. In the late 1980s I did my own version of expanding the map as well. My western Oerik was more tapered, and I had my rough versions of my personal campaign setting over there. But your version definitely works better for adding another continent to go along with the "four major continents" thing originally described.

Like Mort said, it really does open up the Bakluni lands. As I look at your map, I was imagining Kozakura and the other nations over there, colonizing the western coast of Oerik. As they explore east into the Dramidj, running into the Bakluni would be inevitable. Perhaps a kingdom like Zeif becoming a major center of trade to the "exotic lands of the west" could be possible then.

This is so lovely, I would so love to get a larger version of this.
