Sorry for not having posted earlier, but Gary has been notified of the wiki being down (and for the past few days Canonfire! itself), and has posted this update on the Canonfire! Facebook page:

A number of us are now working to restore the wiki. I can tell you that I have now recovered the majority of the content, and gotten copies to others in case I drop dead or something. The content is sadly NOT in a usable form at the moment.
We intend that not only will the recovered Wiki be backed-up in many locations - but also actively mirrored online. I can't give an estimate as to when we'll be done.
Anyone with a deep knowledge of MediaWiki and/or MySQL and would like to help, can reach me as w80 in #greytalk. I rarely check PMs or follow threads in the forum.

Lamashtu, I would be interested in being a mirror site... thinking I might build a Raspberry Pi just for that... a fun project possibly. Could you provide more details (when you are ready to mirror)?
Also emailed a gamer friend of mine who is heavily into SQL to see if he would be interested in helping out.

So I've recovered an unknown percentage of the wiki's most recent state, in a form that's not particularly usable. We've managed to get it online, again, in a mostly unusable form. We're stalled on the magnitude of manual labor required to return it to a reasonable state.
There's little I hate more than writing code that work with XML, so I don't foresee an automated tool being written currently. Another option might be Amazon's Mechanical Turk I guess, but writing the specification would be complicated and I don't think I'd want to provide the funding on my own.
We've also been pursuing another option, which is obtaining a copy of the corrupted wiki database from Gary. With this in hand, we really ought to be able to restore it to a working state. This option lies in the hands of the server provider (do they keep backups? will they fork 'em over?) and Gary (request backups, put 'em someplace I can leech em to a hefty machine able to work on the database).
rasgon's post above continues to the be the best option I'm aware of for those in need of the wiki. archive.org provides a tremendous benefit to society, albeit one not always fully appreciated.
So yeah; we're stalled on multiple fronts, but the data is secure at least, and we haven't given up. Again: anyone with a deep knowledge of mediawiki, please reach out here or in Greytalk.

Since my last update, I've obtained the allegedly corrupted database, and it successfully imported via my mariadb instance. A brief scan of the tables by eye suggests it's in fairly good shape - but probably riddled with spam.
I'm waiting on delivery of the /wiki/ directory contents, so I can look for signs of tampering with the PHP code, after which I can attempt a full recovery of the wiki and see where/how it breaks down.
I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to recover the wiki to a usable form at this point.
Kickstarter would probably be an inappropriate place to try to fund repairs. A GoFundMe page seems more like the correct approach, should it come to that.

Somebody posted a link to the new website, but didn't pass on that it was currently being tested. I had a look in the forum for The Great Library of Greyhawk Wiki, but I didn't see a mention there.

There's already one mirror up at wait-wtf.com/wiki, eventually Gary and I will establish a system to keep them up to date.
I'm also working on multiple methods of packaging the wiki to allow others to easily host it as well. Our main goal is ensuring the community never is at risk of losing the wiki again.
