City of Greyhawk random encounter table?

Does such a thing exist?

Of course, I could use the 1e AD&D DMG tables or the even better tables in Joseph Bloch's Random Terrain & Encounter Table, but it seems that someone in the last thirty years would have created and posted, somewhere, a massive encounter table with specific subsections for each quarter, and an outside chance of meeting one of the innumerable named NPCs detailed in CoG, FtA, TAB, LGJournals, etc.

Anyone know where I could find something like this? Can it really be that no one has done this?

(I'm assuming the definitive CoG NPC list is the one on Maldin's site.)

Huh... I thought for sure that I'd find at least a basic random encounter table for the City of Greyhawk in the CoG boxed set or maybe on one of the reference cards in FTA, but... nope!

Good luck in your search.

I can’t think of any published tables offhand, either, but the following resources should be helpful in rounding out any encounter tables you build on your own:

- 1e DMG
- Cities by Midkemia Press
- Thieves World box set by Chaosium (which leveraged and customized the Cities tables)
- City of Lankhmar
- City Encounters by Matt Finch/Mythmere Games
- Nocturnal Table by Gabor Lux/EMDT

The City-State of the Invincible Overlord might have a good table, as well.

Though if you are homebrewing a table, then I would actually use a mixture of the 1st edition DMG and the "Random Encounters in Erelhei-Cinlu" table from D3. I believe the latter is the only Greyhawk specific city encounter table that Gygax made that's been published?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely going to merge 1eDMG with Midkemia's Cities (the latter being the best tables I've ever found).

How do I wish that Finch's City Encounters was available anywhere, in any form whatsoever! This is one of the great lost supplements for me, and I find it strange that no one sells a pdf of it anywhere—why? Why won't someone somewhere take my money for a 13 year old pdf?

Nocturnal Table is very good also, and I'll throw that into the mix.

I'd forgotten there were random tables in the Invincible Overlord supplement; I'll check those out too, thanks.

I'll try to remember to post whatever I come up with here, in maybe a month or so.

I was fortunate to score a copy of City Encounters at a con c. 2011. It has a great pulp vibe. I use it for both my 1E Greyhawk and Hyperborea campaigns. You always could ask about making it available in PDF.

IIRC, Matt said at GaryCon that he would be incorporating City Encounters into the new Tome of Adventure design Kickstarter, which has 3 more days to go: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/adventuredesigntome/tome-of-adventure-design

Allan, from what others have said online, I don't think that's true. But I also heard that City Encounters might be his NEXT kickstarter.
