Where to place Darkshelf

A0 Danger at Darkshelf Quarry presents the village of Darkshelf on the coast of Nyrond. I'm unsure where to place that in my campaign. I see that Anna located Darkshelf on the west side of the Nesser River, but I don't think that placement fits the village as described. (For starters, the Nesser River is Nyrond's western border, so this location would make Darkshelf a frontier settlement, not a booming fishing and farming village.) Based on the text, I'm thinking the vicinity of Relpool would be the best fit. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

(I'd hoped to ask Skip Williams at Gary Con, but he was a tough guy to pin down.)

I’m bumping this topic after eight years because my PCs are returning to Nyrond, and the south coast could be in play. After posting this topic in 2014, I asked Skip on Facebook, and here’s the exchange:
Quote:
Me: ...Would you be willing to share where exactly in Nyrond you envisioned the village of Darkshelf...? From your textual description, I’m thinking somewhere to the southeast of the confluence of the Nesser and Duntide Rivers, but I wonder if I may have overlooked some other clue....
Skip: That location at least fits. I don’t have the MS handy just now, but somewhere along the central coast is what I had in mind.

I wasn’t going to press him further, so I’m still thinking either substituting Darkshelf for Relpool, or maybe placing it on the peninsula between Shantadern and Seawatch. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I can’t help but wonder why Skip didn’t provide map coordinates. Oh well.

Darkshelf is a coastal town. It is just east of the Pelyra River, which flows in the sea of gearnatt. The quarry is 3 miles inland from the town and half a mile from the river, in high bluffs. The bluffs also rise along the coast near Darkshelf.

I tend to agree with you that the Anna Meyer map placement west of the Neser and in the eastern Abbor-Alz is unsatisfactory.

Relpool could be an option, but it’s on a stretch of coast running north-south, and thus the Pelyra River could not both be west of Relpool and flow into the sea of gearnatt.

My suggestion would be to place Darkshelf on the coast just west of Claw Point. The Marklands describes Claw Point as having bluffs. The Pelyra River could run north off of Claw Point and snake around west and then south to flow into Gearnatt just west of Darkshelf. That seems to match the test of the module.

Really digging into A0, the text is contradictory (whether from Skip’s manuscript or poor editing). The quarry is a half-mile from Darkshelf on p. 6 and three miles from Darkshelf on p. 7. I think I’m going to place Darkshelf at the northern terminus of the inlet west of Claw Point. That seems a natural place for a small river to empty into the sea.
