What if Mordenkainen is...

The Eternal Champion for Oerth and this multiverse. I always loved Moorcock's Eternal Champions multiverse. I kind of thought the Sueloise were offshoots of Melniboneans.

Mordenkainen is true neutral and Eternal Champions are supposed to be paladins of the Balance. Anyone every run with something like this?

The closest series seems to me to be Gord the Rogue with the final destruction of Oerth. Not Mordenkainen.

Explicitly so, since Gygax put Gord in an Eternal Champion story ("Evening Odds," from White Wolf's Pawn of Chaos anthology of Moorcock-inspired stories).

In the story, Gord teams up with another incarnation of the Eternal Champion named Simon to prevent a diabolic invasion of Los Angeles. They're both referred to as "demi-immortals from the Lords of Balance."
