Hey there, all! Just thought I would take a minute and ask if anyone else has seen the new SciFi channel series, or read the trilogy of books bearing the same name, both written by Lev Grossman.
I've recently watched the entire first season, and got so into that I bought the books, and the audio books.

It is quite possibly the most amazing description of wizardry I've ever read, or seen; most specifically the somatic, verbal, and material components of casting. But, also the difficulty of learning the methods of casting, and how dangerous it can be dealing with the raw edges of chaos that is magic, and how accidentally mis-casting the circumstances of a spell can make it go horribly awry.

I've also recently been re-reading the Ethshar series by Lawrence Watt-Evans, and I really like the descriptions of wizardry there, as well.

Anyone else have thoughts on these books, or thoughts about where great descriptions of the complicated, sometimes tortuous, gestures a wizard makes, of of other details of casting?
I'd love to hear what y'all think wizardry (or other types of magic) are like in Greyhawk!

I just saw this post and checked out the show.

I looks like I'll have to get a subscription to Hulu to watch it, but the bits I was able to see on YouTube were excellent. It looks like my kind of show. I do appreciate that they made magic require verbal and somatic components, though I didn't see much in the way of material components being needed/used by the spellcasters.

Well, I'll check back here after I've watched a season or three. :)
