Film Noire as an Inspiration

I'm wondering who takes inspiration from film noire for their games? Like using the Maltese Falcon (for example) as inspiration for a Greyhawk scenario? Just wondering if any have tried it.

I've enjoyed that genre of cinema but not really read a lot of it in novel form. I like your suggestion and think that it could be made to work in one of the cities or metropolises of the Flanaess—with the work necessary to account for differences in technology (likely represented by magic).

If I recall correctly, the City of Greyhawk boxed set provided for a Nightwatchmen's guild that might serve as a sort of private investigator analogue and which featured in Bailey's novel.

I'd enjoy reading your further thoughts on the idea.

IMC, which is set in the Hold of the Sea Princes, in 583 CY, one of the PCs' early "mysteries" to unravel regarded the Scarlet Brotherhood—having to learn about the scarlet robed emissaries from the distant land of Shar and uncovering their plot against the Seolder nobles . . .

Well, I was thinking. If Film Noir works for Shadowrun, it might work for D&D (specifically Eberron for one place). There has been cross over of genres for Forgotten Realms before. Someone had written a fantasy novel for Forgotten Realms that was a mystery. Then a cross between science fiction to fantasy (Around the Realms in Eighty Days).

I think I have the boxed set in pdf, I didn't open it to see. I want to see if anyone did a similar cross over of genres. In this case, mixing heroic fantasy with Film Noir.

I could do a campaign setup around the Maltese Falcon as an experiment.
