Tomb of Horrors

Anybody else get their Tomb of Horrors rewards module in the mail yet? I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I'm so excited I had to ask.

No, I just re-updated my profile info, so I won't see it for a little while now.

No -- the RPGA just sent out a 4e version of the original Tomb of Horrors to DMs who signed up for their reward program. It's a room-by-room recreation, very faithful. Gary's name is on the cover. I am a 4e fan, so take this with whatever grain of salt you like, but I was impressed. It doesn't have quite the same insta-kills as the original; it is very deadly, much more so than I would have expected from a 4e trap module.

Thanlis: have you compared the 4e treatment to the freebie 3e treatment @ http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20051031a ?

ToH-Still nearly as deadly

The 4th ed Tomb of Horrors is still nearly as deadly. I say nearly because in 4th ed it's really hard to die. When the original ToH came out there wasn't much of a chance. You knew you were going to die.

Regardless, it was still cool to see Wotc redo it and get to play it.

Let's hope Keep on the Borderlands is done as well.

WotC needs to do the board game version of Tomb of Horrors. It would be like Mouse Trap(only cooler). Laughing

Does this mean there are two 4e conversions of "Tomb of Horrors?" One from the RPGA and one from Wizards of the Coast?

The ToH in the link is a new adventure. It is 4 adventures that you sprinkle into a campaign arc that highlight the current machinations of Acererak. The classic tomb is involved, but tangentially.

So then the RPGA's 4e ToH is the one that is faithful to the original. Is it possible to buy a copy outright from the RPGA? Or do you HAVE to join? Also, is it even still available? The Original Post is like a year old.

No, they're all gone: it was a one-time printing.

I'm Gonna Run Them

I'm gonna run both the DM Rewards Tomb of Horrors and the super-adventure beginning 19 November 2011. We shall see how it goes. I'll post links to campaign journals here for interested parties.

You may follow more closely HERE for wikis, characters stuff, etc... I'd even appreciate feedback on how we're building this campaign in Sunndi.

I've been wondering if anyone has ever entertained the notion of Count Hazendel being half-elven, or may even three quarters human and one quarter gray elf.

Happy gaming.

I have entertained that notion, and that would be my inclination if it ever came into play. I've got a certain view of elves that doesn't exactly jibe with the standard view. The main part of my objection comes from an elven realm that would ever have paid fealty to a human realm. Duchy of Ulek is a problem in this aspect for me also.
