1st edtion PHB cover

I saw this question on another web site and I had to ask it here!

How many of you have run or played in a adventure based on the cover of the PHB? I played in one around 15 year-ish ago, had alot of fun with those BIG-O gems Happy

The big statue was included in one of the first adventures I dared to write for myself.

Since then it's become a staple of my campaigns, most often appearing in my version of the adventure "Citadel by the Sea".

Damn dude, that's a good question. No I haven't...and realizing it now, I'm rather disappointed in myself. Tsk!

The original Ravenloft had a room with two Iron Golems with large gem eyes that had to be removed, if I recall correctly. That's the closest I've ever come to an adventure with such a statue.

There's a chamber in L3 Deep Dwarven Delve that Len Lakofka designed as a hommage to the PHB cover. While readng through the module I didn't stumble upon it, but when I played it several years ago and action took place there, I suddenly realized that it was the idol from the Players Handbook that was standing there. I didn't know that...

I bought the HackMaster B2 which features their version of that idol with the gem eyes but I haven't played it. Now that I read that blurb about L3, I want to check that out too!

There's an unofficial history of the idol on the WotC site, in which it is named Lakshesherek and placed in the Amedio Jungle.

Different

I think it's interesting to note that the HackMaster version of this god is its AD&D counterpart which is the one used in L3 but this WotC unofficial history doesn't use the same god. ...Maybe I'll use this WotC info as a rumor if I ever get the chance....

Hmmm. How many "Morgan"s are out there that appear to be so well-versed in GH lore. I wonder if it was Morgan Olden??

In AEG's DM Toolbox (3.0) there was a mini-adventure thread based on the cover. The Idol's eyes were fake gems coated in sovereign glue. Two goblins would wait for thief to get stuck , then they would rob and kill them.

It was fun, I lost a player to goblin.
