Not that it affects me, but one of my friends pointed out to me when he bought a new wotc D&D book, that purchasing it gave RPGA players 1800 free XPs. WTF? How can buying a book factor into roleplay advancement? Does LG promote this? How does buying-supporting FR books help build a GH character, it seems unethical to me as a gamer.

Was this listed directly in the book or was it a promotional card or something? I'm just trying to ascertain what this was. I looked at the book myself and don't recall seeing anything in there about it.
Without looking at it - I can't be sure. It's possible the XP were for the Legacy of the Green Regent campaign, which is set on the Forgotten Realns. LG characters always start at 1st level. There was never been, to my knowledge, a free gift of XP jsut for purchasing something outside of the game.

I have checked with other Triad members of LG and the Circle of Six. Nothing like this exists. Either it's a misinterpretation or your friend is mistaken.
No XP are being awarded simply for purchasing a book.

I think you are correct, I was informed by another source that it was likely an ad trying to get people to join the RPGA.
