Greetings from the Shire (well the UK, anyway)

Until recently I was an ex-player & DM but thanks to the wonders of modern spellbooks (aka Facebook) my long-since fragmented D&D group have been virtually reunited and decided it would be great to play one last game...for old time's sake.
We last played together 20+ years ago and it was strictly AD&D 1st Edition (non of this new fangled 2nd edition stuff)
Having been given the privelage of DM-ing for one last time with a group of people I havent seen for 20 years and not having touched a D20 for probably 18 years, my mind was buzzing with the possibilities.
All our games were set in the World of Greyhawk so there is no question but that this one will be too. We played many of the published modules back in the day (Hommlet, Giants, Temple of EE, Spider Queen etc) and then the stories grew and the World of Greyhawk took on a life of its own for us. of course, back then, there was no internet and by the time it did come along, I thought D&D was a happy but distant part of my youth.
Now, at 45, as I pick up the die once again, I am amazed by how D&D is clearly alive and well and living on the internet (even if we are now up to 5th Edition - I am firmly refusing to set foot beyond 1st edition on the grounds that you cantt teach an old DM new tricks Smile )
This brilliant site has done much to help me remember things that I thought I had forgotten and point me in the direction of many excellent resources. But here's the funniest thing....
Having agreed to DM this 'anniversary special' I asked the players what they wanted. "One last outing for our greatest heroes" they said. "High level, high stakes"
So I quickly rattled off (funny how the ideas seemed to flow effortlessly once I got started) the beginning of a story which I gave the working title "Rise of the Underdark"
Now before you say it I have since discovered that this creation, of which I was so proud, is far from original. Not only is the story already out there, it even has its own trailer on youtube!
And yet when I came up with it, I genuinely had no idea. I had no idea that any of this material was even on the internet let alone that what was flowing from my pen was already written and produced and ready to go. And thanks to the help of a sage with the strange name of 'Google' my players can read for themselves what the Rise of the Underdark might have in store....I am beginning to suspect the hand (or webs) of the Spider Queen herself are at work and she clearly wants a re-match with those players who thwarted her plans before....
