I've read that punmaster Gygax pronounced Nyr Dyv as "near dive". This would make Dyvers "divers[e]", but wouldn't that also make Nyrond "near-ahnd"? I've always said "nigh-rahnd" myself. What do you think?

Not necessarily, it depends on where one places the syllable break: Ny-rond vs. Nyr-ond.
The pronunciation of our own "Real World" words are often changed in that manner. It all depends on where one places the syllable break. For instance, the difference in the way Americans and the British pronounce the word "vitamin" is dependent upon the division of the syllables.
Americans say "Vi-ta-min." The British say "Vit-a-min." The word is pronounced differently because the British place the "t" in the first syllable, while the Americans place it in the second syllable.
Of course, this would also allow for different people from different parts of the Flanaess, to pronounce "Nyrond" differently.
Doh! No wonder those "guys" from "Sterich" talk so funny!
So it's not a "foreign language," it's a difference in the syllable breaks. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

In my Bandit Kingdoms campaign I'm having a lot of fun introducing my players to Stoink's Chicago-ese accent. I figure if EGG equated Stoink with my hometown, I'd chew the scenery a little.
(Lotsas dese, dem and dose over dere, youse guys.)
((I'm having a blast ))
Sadly, the real Chicagoan accent is fading away with the lamentable ubiquity of education and instant global communication...

Not quite, DLG. As a "New Orleans" boy, I must remind you that we have words in the south that they don't have in the rest of the country. For instance . . .
Neckid.
See, "they" think that "we" can't say "Naked" and that's simply not true. So, in an effort to ed-u-ma-cate you "Yankees" . . .
Naked = You don't have any clothes on.
Neckid = You don't have any clothes on and . . . you is up to somethin'!

I've also said "nigh-rahnd".
I did a little digging and Nyrond isn't listed in Frank Mentzer's "AY PRONUNSEEAYSHUN GYD" or the expanded version in Paizo's Dragon Magazine Compendium or Roger Moore's pronunciation guide in OJ4 or the nomenclature page of the GH Player's Guide. In Gnome Cache ch5, Gygax calls Nyrond "Nehron", so the correct pronunciation is probably "near-rahnd".
I've always said "divers" for Dyvers.

FYI - In the computer game T.o.E.E. they pronounce it:
Iuz = Eye-ooze.
Oerth = Oh-Earth.
Zuggtmoy = Zut-moy. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html
