Thanks, but he 's not half-Suel. I'd need to check to see if he would be half-Flan or half-Oeridian.

Climate Change, Drinks!

Nope. The Little One is claiming that a strange, powerful, alien, Egg-creature is causing the climate change. At least it's a more definite source, and 'actionable'. Happy

By the by, that was a good post, Lamashtu. But i have a question: What on earth (Oerth?) is Saevil's That's No Jungle! reference about? i am clueless, and thus so is Njord. ???

Corus Inhabitants and Town Guard Q's

Questions about Corus / Town Guard:

This is a very mixed group of people from many cultures/races. Most have been hand-picked to come to Corus, but occasionally, probably, bad apples get in? Is the populace rather unruly at times, such as bar-fights, etc.? Does the Town Guard act to stop these fights? That might give reason for the respect they are offered by the locals, especially if the Guard acts in a fair manner.

Also, has Corus had to defend itself from any serious attacks from outsiders other than this current weather-witchery? Has the Town Guard actually repelled such attacks? I don't recall any mention in the write-ups.

Syz,

Your general notions regarding the folk of Corus are correct. There is a singular dynamic in play there: The fact that these people have largely been hand-picked to reside there. This accounts for the relative good nature of the population and their placid demeanor. The people that have been chosen are good one (in quality, not necessarily Alignment).

That said...Corus isn't utopia. There are commonly disagreements (largely the result of too many cups at one of the local taverns) or very occasionally disputes over property or trade. In cases where these turn violent, the City Guard is asked to intercede. As you noted, they command great respect among the populace. This is chiefly because most of the folk in Corus are very cognizant of what a special place the settlement is. As they are one of the preservers of that wondrous locale...they engender much due reverence.

What is the scale of the HQ? 1 square = 2.5 ft? 3 ft?

One square = Ten feet. As described, the structure was immense. "One hundred feet in length."

Scale of HQ?

Do i have the right map of the HQ? Mine shows 8 squares N-S, about 40 squares E-W. If that's right, then it's 400 feet long (E-W) by 80 feet wide (N-S). The furniture would be huge, as the chairs almost take up a full square each!? ?????

Syz,

Argh. I'd forgotten I'd changed resolution. When I had the map at 1sq = 10ft, everything looked way too cramped. You're correct, those values are in error. The correct values are 1sq = 2.5ft. Your 40sq width, therefore, is 100ft.

Sorry about the confusion! very happy

Ok, unconfused.

So, here's a new map of the HQ. This is the layout Ohrin would like to move the furniture to. He'll also grab a pair of bookcases from his place, some throw rugs for in front of the hearths, and he'll requisition two archery targets as well.

Please let me know what you think.

Here is a Heroforge mini preview of what Ohrin looks like when in his battle gear and while casting some sort of fire spell. Full description has been sent. Will probably do a mini preview for his out of combat look later today.

Aurdraco's Ohrin, Gameplay, and Q About Posting

Aurdraco,

Really nice job on the 'forged' Ohrin. Just make sure he doesn't drop that fireball on the books at his feet! And great job on the additions/rearrangement to HQ, as well. In other words: "I love what you've done with the place." Wink

Game-Play:

If Ohrin expresses his full idea for rearranging hq and it's allowed/possible, Njord will definitely be on board for helping make that happen. He'll also try to include Saevil and Kahss in the project.

Q:
Is this forum where we express non-speaking actions, such as the one above? Or, should we post it in the main thread? If so, let me know and i'll put it up there.

Thanks!

To simplify and move the story forward, Ohrin will just begin re-arranging the furniture if no one objects (and someone has already started helping). Please see most recent map. Hat tip to our DM for turning me on to that online mapping tool.

This thread is for Out of Character (OOC) stuff. We, as players, discuss things in here. Anything our characters do that needs to be shown, imo, should be in the chapter threads.

Aurdraco,

Saw that other (non-combat) Ohrin forge-form. Most cool. I'm still worried about those books with all that fire being thrown around! Wink

It makes me want to make a Njord-form, too. I hope i get around to that.

Gentlemen,

Two items, for your information:

1. I have been informed by Jig that he is currently quite busy with professional and personal commitments and, therefore, will find it difficult to post with any reliable frequency for the nonce. Therefore, I will be constructing today's post in such a way that addresses his character's silence.

2. I have not forgotten the Character Description capsules I promised you last week. I have been waiting on Jig to remit his submission, but with respect to the first item, this has not been forthcoming. Therefore, I will be posting the rest of your capsules today and tagging his on subsequently.

Choosing Our Comrades: The List

Hey, nice job on the NPC list, KW. Thanks.

Ok, this may be jumping the gun, but i'm in gamin' mode, so i compiled my first Njord-thoughts-list about the candidates. This might help coordinate opinions on our prospective companions. Basically gives ranks for each individual by the following scale:

+3: Wanted to a point of pitching a fit if not chosen
+2: Much wants.
+1: Would seem positive to have along
00: (0): Neutral, doesn't have opinion either way.
-1: Seems a negative
-2: Definitely not wanted
-3: Will protest vehemently, maybe drop out himself, if individual chosen.

? (question mark) means doesn't really have any info.
* (asterisk) means might be notes, caveats, etc.

Code:

+1  Asranith Lasiniir
+1  Lady Armiger Marissa Osson of Almor
+1* Sir Montgomery “Monty” Persides  (but a Paladin? Yikes?!)
+1? Soren Stormcloud
+1? Kelvan Farstrider
00? “Slava”
00? Yrist Vrabenn
00? Kharâz Stonemilker
00? Lertan Stonemilker
00? Minek Stonemilker
+1? Captain Jinmiir Ristolier
00? Idriel von Fluss-Amberhill
00? Khândraz
00? Ruslan Heatherplains
00? Frantisek Mannenheim
00? Monek Friedrich
00? Sammi Vasternaan
00? Karstren Esil
+2  Lars Loja
+1* Milleen (Might be good to have trained wolves along!)
00? Altansarnai  (Might be good if we choose Milleen)
+1? Hjálmar Frjálsmaður  (Just like the name)
00? Jonáš Cerny
00  Ballatia Wishílde
00? Lucion Inmarial
00? Gerrit Lashander
00? Renada Rabbitwarren
-2  “The Dark One”
+1? Nevin Stoutshield  (Hey, with a name like "Stoutshield", how can ya go wrong?)
+1  Merri Flowerfield
00? Mirka Daňo
00  Narend Martracin
+2* Lukasz Ravel  (Problem, taking him away from his betrothed? Amelia)
-2  “Crow Jane”
+1  Asila T'shanna  (A monk might be good to have along)
+1? Faeranna Nightsky  (Like the name)
00? Morin Thistlefoot
00? Markus Restantin
+1  Johanna Swiftstoat

Look forward to also talking (longform/role-play comm) about this.

PS: And ok, "The Dark One" is not a must have.

PPS: Too bad there's no table html option.

Syzygyst,

Firstly, thank you for the kind words on the list of NPCs. Please bear in mind that each Player in the game got different information regarding these characters...so, yes: Creating those lists was a great deal of work!

Second, you have a novel approach (your table) for listing which characters Njord does and doesn't approve of. It was an unexpected approach, but I think it will prove helpful (in conjunction with the long form role-play, of course) for the group in selecting your fellowship.

Third, yes...Corus has a very diverse population. This is what you get when you deal with a settlement primarily composed of adventurers: Much weirdness!

Finally...I, too, enjoyed the descriptions of your individual PCs. Hopefully, you enjoyed the descriptions of the NPCs just as much!

Fellowship Voting Method

Hey Aurdraco!

Glad u liked the idea. I actually thought of it as a way to expedite the process of selection. Sort of a way of displaying our "group-mind" in short-hand, if u will. If we were to completely play/dialogue this out, it might take weeks at our present post-rate, so this came to mind. I'm looking forward to what role-play we do have on the subject, i just think this will hasten things greatly.

Ohrin Can Claim The Idea:
I didn't think of this in character, and wasn't even considering it as a device that the characters would actually be using. Njord is not very cerebral. He likes hunting and tracking and the like, so i doubt he'd ever think of such a thing. Ohrin, on the other hand, might actually think of something like this. If you'd like for Ohrin to actually use this idea in the game-world, please have at it! I could see one such as he actually devising such a numerical strategy. (I'm assuming Ohrin is rather intelligent, being a mage). And actually, by your recent post, Ohrin is already at the table pouring over the list and making notes, so he's a natural for it. Njord, on the other hand, has a lovely lesbian captain to occupy his current thoughts!Smile

So, if you want to be the one in charge of the actual (real-world) table, be my guest. You could just write it up and send it out (or to KW for dispersal) as a PDF or the like. If you'd rather i actually handle the details, let me know. i'm flexible.

Let me/us know.

Note that the composite score (regardless of who actually tracks this), does not have to be averaged. A simple sum will suffice, as it will still yield a bipolar (tho magnified: -9 to 0 to +9) score. It just saves a step (and is cleaner) than computing an average of our 3 'scores.' Actually, i guess it may be 4 scores if KW is going to play Kahss and give his input. Or perhaps Jig will actually find the time to participate! Fingers crossed.

Also, i'm assuming Kraftwerk/Lamashtu will be OK with this. If not, please speak up!

Kraftwerk:
This is pretty cool. I've never experienced this while gaming before -- i.e. having our (main) characters select a bunch of companions. Groovy!

Syzygyst & Aurdraco,

Of course, I have no qualms with whatever methodology you should choose to select your fellowship. In the words of Aleister Crowley: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

Of course, I would be remiss in my duties as a Dungeon Master were I not to remind you that there are consequences to every one of your choices, as Players. With that in mind, you are free to choose as you will -- but you should be most careful to ensure that your methodology is sound. Failure to do so is to invite disaster.

In closing, I'm glad that you find the game experience to be unique and rewarding, thus far. Let's hope it continues on that path!

Ok, was tired for that last post (about leaving hq and gathering gear), so hopefully it wasn't too bad.

Basically Njord was trying to make note of anything he thought the hq/guards could use, and either picking it up on the way back or after returning with all his gear. This depends however on:

What time-ish does he return to hq? He plans on heading to the captain's an hour after sunset, which leads to the question(s): When does the sun set, and, thus, what time of year is it (date)? I may have already asked that but i'm tired. I'll check notes later today...

Also, he may wish to bathe if possible before heading to the captain's. He needs to clear his heads.

Syzygyst,

Ok, was tired for that last post (about leaving hq and gathering gear), so hopefully it wasn't too bad.

Basically Njord was trying to make note of anything he thought the hq/guards could use, and either picking it up on the way back or after returning with all his gear. This depends however on:

What time-ish does he return to hq? He plans on heading to the captain's an hour after sunset, which leads to the question(s): When does the sun set, and, thus, what time of year is it (date)? I may have already asked that but i'm tired. I'll check notes later today...

Also, he may wish to bath if possible before heading to the captain's. He needs to clear his heads.

The post wasn't too bad. I understood what you meant, which is really all that matters. Smile

For your further information: It is the 7th day of Readying. Tomorrow is, ironically enough, the first day of the week-long Rising Fest: A holy week, sacred to the followers of Beory. Luna will be in her full glory in four days. Sol has been setting sometime around 5:00pm, which means you have slightly less than three hours before you will appear at Captain Fireheart's office.

Plan accordingly....

C2: HQ / Njord

Thx, KW. More Q's:

Oerth Year:
What year (CY) is it? (If you already stated this, i can't find it.)

WATER? Both on Corus and Our Journey?:
Another big Q: WATER ECOLOGY. Are there blocks of fresh-water ice available for transfer to be melted down? Or sea-water boiling? Are there public containers with fresh/sea-water or ice? There are springs but don't know if they are potable (sulphur), etc.????

HQ Equipment/Food/Items:
Also, don't know how detailed you wanna get about the HQ accoutrements, but Njord is back to thinking about getting things that might be needed for the several days they will stay there. If he thinks of anything (or if the guards specified things they wanted), and he thinks there is time to get them before seeing the Captain, he'll do that. Otherwise, he will simply wait for the others to return.

Bath:
He was thinking of a bath, but now thinks he'll need it after seeing the Captain. He'll probably need to calm down again.

The year is 600CY.

Corus is surrounded in briny salt walter. Most of it is in a slushy state, frozen at the edges of the Brink Islands. With that said: Ohrin, I suspect, will be instrumental in your party's survival. Corus' drinking water is, likewise, provided by clerical spellcasting (which I mentioned in some Players' information packs, though not all).

Noted. I know that you mentioned your desire to do this before, but I ignored reflecting it in the story quite purposefully. It will soon become apparent why (minor spoiler: It won't prove necessary).

The Brink Islands are a cold, cold place, my friend. You want happiness and sunshine? Go someplace sunnier...like, say, Rauxes. Evil Grin

Also: It's Syz' fault for comparing them to Oompa-loompas!

Hey, i love Oompa-Loompas! They're awesome! Plus, i have to add levity where i can, considering that my moody and even somewhat morose character is soon going to be flayed alive by the captain, or by the demon that currently possesses her! Wink

But, KW, you didn't wait for my follow up after the gnome-children depart! That's when Njord was going to walk nonchalantly over to the fireplace and, with a sinister sneer and laugh, cast the silly thing into the flames! Wink

In truth, that's simply adorable. I actually want one.

Yeah, right. You and I both know Njord doesn't have that in him.

Syzygyst wrote:

Nice scene, KW.

Some fun facts on that scene:

- Ernie Gygax's favorite monster of all-time is the Owlbear.

- Ernie Gygax has that very same plush owlbear in the link I sent you. That was actually the inspiration for the scene. I saw that plushie and, like you, thought it was absolutely adorable.

- I, too, love owlbears. I have subsequently bought that doll (she's looking at me right now as I type this, from her perch on my desk) and I think it's still available. I want to say she was $25?

- Is it just a doll? Or was it something much more...? Evil Grin

Thanks for the kind words. Fun scene to write!

Quite the opposite, she's not yet 4 and she's already dwarfing 8 year old boys. I look forward to watching her kick **** in Krav Maga classes, and when she's a bit older, taking her to the firing range.

Although last I checked she still adores the Cthulhu plushie I bought her when she was an infant. I was between careers and basically took care of her 5-6 days a week while her parents worked. Those were good times. *sigh*

Just a small heads-up: I received your message today, K. Smile Suffice to say that when I said that I was a Greyhawk mainstay, that also involved some knowledge of the technical pitfalls the site brings. Happy

I am still very interested to join, but I am on the road until Sunday, so I'll only be able to respond you in a proper fashion when I am back home.

But, yeah, as far as I am concerned, I can't wait to join you all! Smile

C2: The Outsiders / Hq / Njord / Idle-time B4 Captain

KW,

Njord is pondering his options for the next, what, 1-and-a-half hours? 1/2 hour-ish for sunset then wait an hour?

He's wondering if sewing Olivia seems like a good idea. I think you mentioned she has some stuffing showing?

He'll be looking over the list for a few (10/15) minutes, and then try to think of something else to do. Might sharpen swords, etc.

If you have any input, do tell.

-- Syz

PS: As far as the doll being something 'more,' Njord has no idea. Although he might be a little wary of it if he thinks it's a creation of the Dark One.

Njord, Mirka Dano

Hey KW!

Mirka Dano:
Wasn't sure if Njord is suppose to know something about Mirka in response to Cap'n F's statement. Don't recall anything, and can't find anything in notes. Maybe because i'm tired?

Milleen:
I have info that she is only 12 years old. Is that correct? Do kobolds age faster than humans? So is she equivalent to, say, 18? Might have a problem taking a 12 year old!

Crow Jane:
Same Q as Milleen but for Kenku instead of kobolds, as she is only 14?

Ages of You

Syz,

You haven't missed anything about Mirka. The Captain has a personal opinion of her, based on her own experience. Persue or ignore the matter as you see fit.

With regard to Milleen and Crow Jane: You got it right in one. Kobolds and Kenku age much differently than do humans, gaining maturity far earlier. By the standards of the former, Millen is about 23; by the standards of the latter, Crow Jane is perhaps the same.

Sævil follows Milleen on his hands and knees. As they travel he asks, "Milleen your people look like lizards and what little I know of lizards is that they survive poorly in the cold, often even with fire. Captain Fireheart's Input

Ok. I'll be sending a slightly different version of Njord's thoughts next (as per chat with Aurdraco), but i thought it would be good to have Captain Fireheart's take posted. As Njord will (or would) be offering her views during discussions, as being distinctly her own. So if it matters to anybody (or any character) to know what the Cap'n thinks, here it is: (+1 she gave definite thumbs up for. Only gave real detail about a few folks).

Captain Fireheart's List:

Code:

+2  Asranith Lasiniir
+2  Lady Armiger Marissa Osson of Almor
00  Sir Montgomery “Monty” Persides
+1  Soren Stormcloud
+1  Kelvan Farstrider
+1  “Slava”
00  Yrist Vrabenn
+1  Kharâz Stonemilker
+1  Lertan Stonemilker

00  Jonáš Cerny
00  Ballatia Wishílde
00  Lucion Inmarial
00  Gerrit Lashander
00  Renada Rabbitwarren

Njord's Updated List

Here's Njord's new opinions list with minimal notes. Has been somewhat modified after chat with Cap'n F. I'll send more details, like class, level, etc. in a next post, which may be tonight, if i can keep my eyes open. But that detail may be minute, anyway.

Njord's Updated List

Discussing the Volunteers

Aurdraco,

Ok. Cool. Saw the Discussion post in the main thread. Nicely done. I have no problems with the current "definites" (+3+) list. Will try to get a general NPC synopsis for Njord out this eve. Will also post q's/thoughts about the gaggle of +2 nominees.

QUESTIONS for Kraftwerk:

Do you prefer posting general Discussion stuff in the main thread or do you want it in the OOC thread? Or maybe you don't care?

Are we supposed to select exactly 20 NPCs? Or was that just a ballpark number? Was there any definite reasons given for that number -- ie that large of a group? I don't recall at the moment. Didn't seem to be any.

Answers for Syzygyst

Syzygyst,

Firstly, it's my strong preference that all general discussion -- that which is not conducted by your characters -- is posted in the OOC thread.

Secondly, twenty is not a hard and fast number. The Little One put forth that number as an upper limit on a practical fellowship (considering supplies and a small enough group to elude detection by your enemies). That was simply her opinion, however. As ever, you may do as you see fit!

Njord Quick Data

Ok. Here's some notes. There may be more to say, but this is a start for all characters for which Njord has any solid info.

Question marks mean uncertain. City Guard / Defenders noted.
