Scarlet Brotherhood and GH product support

Wizards' reprinting of TSR classics via print-on-demand at rpgnow is old news, but this week's release of The Scarlet Brotherhood is kind of special: it's the first time we can show the IP holder support for a printed, branded, GH product since Slavers seventeen years ago. (LGG and EttRoG had "Greyhawk" on the covers, but they weren't part of a setting product line.)

SB is the first POD release with the flagship GH logo and it's the first GH release that's not a module. The sourcebook lends itself to the format well, as the original was also a perfect-bound and the small fold-out map was such cheap quality that having it bound in the back isn't a big loss.

It might behoove us to show our support and pick up WG5 and SB sooner rather than later. Maybe everything will eventually get released on POD anyway, but right now's it's a trickle and GH is getting almost no setting support while FR has seventeen releases. The "generic" 1e classic modules will always sell and I'm sure we'll get more of those, but I'm tired of taping my FtA box and WGR5 maps together and it would be nice to push the 2e GH reprints along.

Pdf+ softcover for $11.99 is a dang good price! Cool I'll have to look a bit more at what is available.

If they were to put together a fully formatted and official copy of Ivid the Undying, I'd surely get that in pdf+print format. Happy

Another product (which is not specifically a Greyhawk product) that is currently not available, but which I would love to have a hard copy of at a similarly very reasonable price, would be "Night Below: An Underdark Campaign."

SB Print On Demand

Spot on.
That's a fantastic price! And even though I have Sean K. Reynold's original designer's copy of Scarlet Brotherhood, complete with personal autograph and inscription - this is how we let WotC know that we are still interested in GH products.
If we don't buy it, they're much less likely to put up any more.
Plus, there are even references in some of the other books that say things like -
The Adventure Begins wrote:
Though almost all of these products are currently out of print, ... The material in this book is designed so that the City of Greyhawk setting can be linked with those earlier GREYHAWK™ products in a coherent and internally consistent campaign.
So, if we want them to make all of those refrences listed in TAB into Print-On-Demand so that they aren't technically out-of-print anymore, we must buy their products to make them see that we want them!

Awesome site and I have enjoyed the PDF modules/adventures I've gotten from them for a while now. They have tons of GH products on the PDF side, but you're right not a whole lot yet in the softcover realm, which is relatively recent I think. I'm looking forward to more soon.

After reading this thread I went and bought said Scarlet Brotherhood supplement book. Let me tell you I'm shocked about how nice this is. The soft cover looks like it's an original, plus the pages are of quality paper. Color (non glossy) maps of the Tilvanot Peninsula, Hempoland, & The Amedio are nice as well! Not bad for only 11.99 USD.

Bump, if you missed it, the 1980 Greyhawk folio was released for POD a couple weeks ago. The quality is pretty good, but the Darlene map does not lend itself to being chopped up. Still, it's worth showing our support and it makes GH one of the few campaign settings with a core gazetteer available.

The City of Greyhawk box was also released a few months ago as a giant book. Pretty good. Text a slightly faded.

Finally, let's all spam the contact button and tell the decision makers to reprint Monster Mythology for POD. Not only is it the most important splatbook of the DMGR line, but TSR messed up the glue and binding of every single original copy and I'd love to never open my mangled, puckered original again.

As Vestcoat points out, the Greyhawk folio is out.
I bought a PoD copy, bundled with the PDF. I'm thrilled to have it. Exclamation
...
I showed it to a friend of mine, and he initially thought I'd somehow managed to dump several hundred dollars into a NM copy from a collector's trove somewhere. Happy

Though the map isn't a full fold out, it's lined up in pages fairly well, so, whenever they could put pages together that actually touch, they do, making it a two-page spread.
Yes, it isn't a poster, but, it's not any different than turning the page in a PDF. And, frankly, I think that it's easier to use, because I don't have to unfold a poster to look at it, I can just flip to a page to check geography real quick, and go right back to reading.
...
I wish they could offer an *option* to have the large-format poster printed with a PoD copy - they'd make a buttload on that, I'm sure.
But still ...
A fine, crisp copy, with a great copy of the cover that's been retouched nicely, and has clear, defined pages and fonts.

Book-bound maps are definitely advantageous mid session. My gripe is that an entire horizontal hex row is missing. Even if I stress the binding and look all the way into the crevice, half a hex is missing from each page. Hex #123 and the letters for "Ull" simply aren't there. It's also impossible to decipher hex coordinates with this format.

IMO, Darlene's map is best mounted on the wall for all to see and stick with pins. After all, Greyhawk started as a hex crawl on the Outdoor Survival maps. There's aren't many spoilers. Dungeon coordinates are hidden in the DM books. Old school.

End tangent. I'm not naysaying, the POD Folio is good, but they should have cleanly divided and wholly represented the map the same way The Scarlet Brotherhood POD neatly split the Tilvanot Peninsula. Unfortunately, the TSB's expert reproduction is the exception for POD maps instead of the norm. It's just a matter of time before they add fold-out maps to their printing repertoire and we all repay for our books for the tenth time.
