The Yeomanry, or The Yeomanry League, to use its proper name, offers diverse adventuring opportunities, but is especially suited to virtuous campaigning. Because the bad often comes with the good, it likewise offers adventuring opportunities for those who sneer at such idealism.
The Yeomanry is primarily a warm temperate land, but it is surrounded on three sides by mountains. Politically, the Yeomanry, sees itself as a virtuous democracy in which the yeoman (not surprisingly) farmer is part of a larger citizenry, rising to its aid when duty calls. It might be correct. Military and political participation go hand in hand: Anyone who fights for the nation as part of its militia-based military may participate in choosing its leadership. It is proud to have remained free, though not without the cost of having to fight for it, during the Greyhawk Wars. The nation stays uninvolved in continental politics, focusing attention inward and more locally. For this reason, the governing body may prefer to act through adventuring parties rather than through more official channels.
Country-specific resources:
None. (thus making it ripe for development in a new campaign.)
Adventures in the country include:
- Dwellers in the Hool Marshes provide opportunities for defensive and offensive adventures in service of the nation.
- The nation has traditionally had to protect itself from giants who envied the richer lowlands.
- Protecting legitimate trade from Keoland and, during peaceful times, Sterich and allied groups in the Hold of the Sea Princes.
- Bringing criminals to justice, and providing justice for victims.
- Assisting border regions in setting their lives straight after attacks from the mountains or the Hool Marshes.
- Seeking out internal subversive forces what would sew dissent within the nation or open it up to outside control.
- Explore the mysterious tunnel known as the Passage of Slerotin from the Yeomanry town of Dark Gate.
Adventures in nearby areas include:
- The Crystalmist, Jotens, and Tors Mountains provide mountain adventures, with a rich Underdark.
- The Dreadwood to the east provides ample ground for forest adventuring.
- The large Hool Marshes to the south provide swamp adventures.
- Pursuing kidnappers or others in to mountains or marshes.
- Spy or reconnaissance missions to Sterich or the Hold of the Sea Princes, especially during the Greyhawk Wars when these areas were in turmoil.
- Unofficial (or official) aid missions to groups in the Hold of the Sea Princes seeing to throw off Scarlet Brotherhood rule.
- Missions to the Mountains to search for treasure or artifacts, establish trade, or form alliances.
- Missions west past the Crystalmists to explore lands unknown, perhaps via the mysterious Passage of Slerotin. _________________ Richard Di Ioia (aka Longetalos)
