Hi,
I crossposted this on Candlekeep. But I'd like your thoughts on this spell. Did you use it? Do you like it's effects? Do you think it's overpowered? How did you make it Greyhawk based?

I do not make much use of it in my campaign because it forces the player whose character is reincarnated to play a very different character than the one they created. Now, playing a different character from the last one you played is all well and good, but being forced to play a new character with a race and class you didn't choose is not something most players are happy with. If I use it, it is to offer a chance for a low level PC to be brought back to life when the party doesn't have access to a raise dead spell. I always give the player a choice in the matter.
Early in my D&D days, a player's half-elven fighter/magi user was sliced in half by the pendulum trap in The Lost City. The party had a reincarnation spell on a scroll and used it on him. He returned as a dwarven fighter/thief. For fun, I declared that he still spoke with an elven accent, but over the years it bothered me that we forced the player to completely change his character.

That's more than what I got from the FR folks. Thanks, Sir Xaris.

Not sure what you mean about "making it Greyhawk", perhaps that's a later edition thing than I play? As someone that's stayed with AD&D, I don't find that edition's version overpowered.
IME it's rarely used by players, but has it's place when raise is unavailable for whatever reason. As always, it's the player's choice to use it and not the DM's.

I'm still playing a character that started as a half-orc fighter/cleric - and is now a human. Still trying to find that wish to change him back.

-FWIW, recurring character Phoebus, most recently Mayor of Greatrock in the Hardby domains, was a man who became a lizardman as the result of a reincarnate spell.

In which adventure is he listed as a Lizardman?

As I recall, that also happened to one of the characters in the novel "Quag Keep". One of the D&D players transported from Earth to Greyhawk died early in the book and was reincarnated as a lizardman.
Checking my bookshelves ... I remembered there being at least one reincarnated character in the 1e AD&D "Rogues Gallery" supplement. One was a man turned into a centaur and the other was ... Phoebus the lizardman.
