Hardby, a nice place to live?

    Hello All,

Can anyone tell me about Hardby? I have some knowledge about their gynarchy, their marines, Greyhawk holding sway over them, but nothing too solid. What is the population, trade, etc. Can anyone help me out before Saturday? Thanks for your help! Smile

Also check out Dungeon 109. It has an awesome Living Greyhawk approved article called Hardby: City of the Scorned with some great maps.
If you have Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins, look at pages 56-57, too.

Ok, I loved the Dungeon version of Hardby, and I have been aching to play a campaign there. I have not seen the OJ version yet. This raises two questions.

    1) How good is the OJ version, and how does it compare?

    2) If it is good, why did they revise it, with so amny more undetailed cities in the Flaness?

They revised it because (a) They hadn't seen the OJ version and (b) even if They did, They couldn't use any of it without infringing the copyright of the author (another reason not to read that article in case you subconciously start porting ideas over and get accused of plagarism).

As to why Hardby and not somewhere else:
A: because it was to tie in with a series of Core modules set in the area (starting with The Traitor's Road and carrying on into the Bright Sands arc).
B: Because Erik Mona liked the idea and wanted to publish it. There was a plan to follow Hardby with a Cities of Aerdy series in Dungeon - featuring Kalstrand, Rel Deven and Zelradton and written by myself, Stuart Kerrigan and Creighton Broadhurst respectively, but this got shelved for a combination of reasons.
Firstly, we needed to come up with an adventure to tie into the article to justify the slot in Dungeon (like the Istivin series). This took more time than I had and in the meantime the word came from above directing Dungeon and Dragon to tone down the Greyhawk content (hence the current "Age of the Free City"). So though he gave a lot of helpful direction on Cities of Aerdy (and Hardby), Erik's hands were tied.

The Kalstrand article appeared in OJ 17 (and in a summary form on the LG site). I think the Zelradton piece has been sent to OJ for consideration too. A version of the Kalstrand adventure will (hopefully) appear as a LG metaregional module (City of Gold) at the end of the year.

    Hope that clears things up,

    They ;-)

    To you who helped

    Hello Everyone,

Well, first let me just say THANK YOUUUU! Happy I called my local-yokel gaming store and they had the issue! Woowhoo. The article is exceptionally helpful and the party will probably use Hardby as a base of operations and intrigue Wink Awesome help folks, the maps and articles are great. This is the kind of stuff middle-aged gamers (can't believe I just admitted to that) like myself look for, need and can use. Thanks again.

    Middle Aged

Middle Aged Aint so bad... and guess what, unlike all our current seniors, when we all get relegated to the nursing home, we will have something to do. And it wont matter that the lady down the hall thinks she's invisible! Happy
