    When a Star Falls

    Hello All,

I am putting my kids (my players, they are all adults...and not mine) through the adventure When a Star Falls. I placed it in southern Sterich and used it's location in the modules Tegefed Mountains as the Jotens. Okay I used the Tegefed Mountains as a smaller chain of the Jotens, but I digress. As Sterich is in discord do you feel that this was a good choice or should I have put this in a farther place say.....Geoff? Just curious, because I think Sterich could use a little low level adventure.

As I recall that was a fun adventure. In my mind I have always linked the location of the "When A Star Falls" adventure to "The Sentinel" and "The Gauntlet", probably due to playing through them all around the same time. I can't recall if there is any link other thatn the adventures being in the UK series. If there is a link, that would place the location somewhere in or near the Hold of the Sea Princes, so you could locate it just south of Hokar in the mountians on the northern coast of Jeklea Bay. I can't recall if there is any lake or river anywhere in the adventure, but if there is you could locate it closer to Lake Spendlowe and/or the Hool River. Sterich also has the Javan River to take advantage of.

If the adventure has nothing to do geographically with the Adlerweg series/area then your location is fine. The slightly hostile area makes for a good adventure environment. I myself changed the observatory a bit to have links to Celestian, but that's just me.

The location for "When A Star Falls" doesn't appear to be Greyhawk. I assume it's the same world for some of the other Graeme Morris authored modules like "Eye of the Serpent" and "Where Chaos Reigns" but who knows? He also authored my all time favorite module, "Night's Dark Terror." Man, that guy could write.
Anyway, southwestern Sterich looks like a great location although I'd probably go the other way and place it in that far eastern spur of the Jotens where the Javan is close to them and they run into the Little Hills. That could match up fairly well with Map 1 in the module.
Of course Cebrion's suggestion could work well too if you placed it near that spur of the Hellfurnaces just above where the Hool flows out of Lake Spendlowe. The Celestian link is a good idea.
It's a great module (the memory web and Svirfneblin war constructs are awesome!) although I always thought the pair of Red Dragons was kind of out of place and jarring.

    Hey there,

Indeed, I too believe that a pair of Red Dragons was out of place. I will make it a single young Green Dragon instead. There are plenty of green woods and marshy area near the area, so....... Smile The Green Dragon may come back as a lovely adventure hook in higher levels Shocked

I'm making the deep gnome constructs out of the bottom of the plastic containers you get out of the bubble gum machines, add silver paint and viola!

This is where I am think of locating it. Alot of that is because that is where I'm groov'n, but there is more to.

The shape of the mountains it about right. The flavor could very reasonbly follow UK2-3 and seeing the star fall from the mountain keep in UK3 would be a cool transition. The size of the river in the module is, IMO, too big, but a fairly large river could reasonably go there if it drained everything up to the Hool marshes. UK2 has a monk from a local order, so that could be merged with the monks there or as park of the back story on the region generally. Having a few orders surviving from the Firstcomers is an interesting prospect for the western hold. It fits in with the notion of city of Industrious.

Man, I think you have a Berghof monkey on your back Happy

It is a good module. No doubt. The Firstcomer related monk orders are an interesting idea.

The Berghof monkey, sounds like a great article. Undoubtedly it migrated from the Amedio. Wink
