    Dwarven mercinaries company

Hi! My brother want;'s to play a dwarven fighter and he want;s to be part of some kind of mercenary company. Are those in Greyhawk? Or are those some famous mercenaries groups in general?

It doesn't matter if one exists or not. Create one.

The City of Greyhawk DOES contain a Guild of Mercenaries. You can find anyone, of any race or skill set, who is willing to hire on for coin.

Get the City of Greyhawk boxed set. It will be a wonderful source guide of information for you. I suggest you have your brother's dwarf hail from Karakast, Greysmere (most likely), or Dumadan, as these dwarven cities are in the vicinity of Greyhawk City and most "Greyhawk" dwarves hail from them.

A back-up source guide would be From the Ashes boxed set as well as The Adventure Begins (booklet) or Player's Guide (soft cover) if you cannot get the aforementioned boxed sets.

Finally, I HIGHLY suggest purchasing the Complete Book of Dwarves. GREAT for information, kits, skills, etc on this demihuman race.

We play in Sterich. so Greyhawk City is to far... Maybe something from nearby, or at least Keoland?

Maybe Kordan Badaxe runs a mercenary company now. They could call themselves the Badaxes.

There is a lot of potential for dwarven mercenaries in Sterich. What dwarf wouldn't jump at the chance to mix it up with giants. Mercenary companies could be from lots of places.

Brother made up the "Shield Company" on session, but I will probably used Badaxes as rivals of them. Any other ideas for mercenaries in region?

An adventurer really won't be much of a part of a mercenary company. An ex-member perhaps. If a character is a member of a mercenary company, they probably have a contract/have given an oath to serve the mercenary captain so long as the captain provides work, which they will find or even make (there is always plenty of tinder around just waiting for a spark), and for a period of service too. A mercenary company is not some loose fraternity of warriors who can come and go as they please, and its members generally won't be available to do something like go off adventuring whenever they want to. A mercenary company's whole reputation is built upon its fighting ability and reliability.

So, perhaps *former* mercenary company member would be a better thing.

Or adventurer with a dream to make company. For now - it's is only "captain" and his younger cousin. After some adventures it goes up to 5 dwarves in total. And after this they have enough gold to make the true company. "Guild building". Cool

-Depends on the adventure. I've seen two PCs serving in Ratik's army. One is a dwarven scout whose balliwick includes Quasqueton, and the other one is an archer with 6 months left on his enlistement. What he does after that is his business. Wink Laughing

When I run new PCs through The Keep on the Borderlands, they frequently choose to sign on as soldiers for the Keep. Because they have special skills the normal soldiers generally don't, they are used for horse-mounted patrols in the wilderness instead of walking the walls. This allows them to get a little experience in battle while enjoying the protection of another half-squad of well-armed and armored, mounted men-at-arms for protection. Once they get some experience under their belt, they either don't sign on for another term of service or they are given assignments as a small squad that are more along the lines of special forces. Thus, they work for the keep as an adventuring band. Cool

-Yeah, that's what I have in mind. No one has ever done that IMC, but I wouldn't have a problem with it.
