Necropolis: Its usefullness in a GH campaign

I wasn't sure whether to pick this one up: EGG's "Necropolis" adventure (originally published for Dangerous Journeys but updated to d20 by Necromancer Games).

Necropolis looks like it'd be great in an Egyption-type setting such as Erypt to the far west but for a Flanaess-centric campaign I'm not sure how useful it will be.

What are other people's experience using this adventure?

Have you adapted it and inserted it somewhere in the Flanaess?

    Thanks Happy

I have thought about using it as a resource for the Necropolis of Unaagh (I think I spelled that right) in the Bright Desert. If you change up or adapt the Egyptian themes, I think it would work pretty well. At least you have the advantage of a well developed setting and that can save a great deal of work. There is much to be said for that I think.

    Cheers,

I set this in a secluded valley on the edge of the Hellfurnaces and the Sea of Dust. I attributed the Aegyptian mythos to a long-lost Suel pantheon. Heresy? probably, but it worked out fine. Nice adventure too, very old school in flavor.

I am going out on a limb a bit here - how about the pseudo-egyptian dress of the citizenry of Fleeth from the Vecna: Hand of the Revenant comics - there is a backstory crying out for some exposition!

Thanks! These are all interesting ideas Happy

If you look at the illustrations in the Tomb of Horrors player handout book, there's also quite a few pseudo-Egyptian carvings on the walls of the tomb.

Also, look at the city of Greyhawk, the College of Magic is a pyramid (albeit 3-sided).

One interesting thing about Necropolis is that is contains some monsters that appeared in the Gygax's novels but were never statted out by him for AD&D: the blue demon (aka, the cataboligne demon, from the cover of Saga of Old City), the ghulaz (a demonic gnoll-ghoul hybrid), and the gholle (demonic troll-ghast hybrid).

Necromancer's d20 conversion is very nice.
