Large island north of Ice Barbarians

Anybody know the name of or anything else about this island? It shows up in the Oerik map in the WoG Setting and the maps for the LGG and the Dungeon Flanaess map. Looks to be just an ice-covered rock. Anybody done anything with it?

I must confess that I never paid any attention to that area before. Looks like a good place to have White Dragons though. I share your hope that someone here knows something about it.

Perhaps Rasgon . . .? Confused

It is an intriguing bit of land. I know I used it once IMC as the remote lair of an evil avatar of Tharizdun (don't ask). So it's virtually good for anything. Now from a scholarly standpoint, its proximity to the seafaring Ice Barbarians means they have to know about it and use it/visit it. Furthermore, the fact it has gone unnamed/overlooked in canon could mean it was intended to be unihabited by any man and thus could be a wilderness hunting ground or a grounds for tests of manhood, etc. Great locale!

At the risk of drawing ire for making a real world comparison, perhaps it could be a rough fantasy analogue for Greenland? Although I've never had cause to use them, it would be a great place to set some of the scenario's from the Frsotfell (?) book. I see it as nealry icebound, and full of polar bears, yeti's, remorhaz' and white dragons. Perhaps use some cinematic scenes of "black blizzards" carried by westerley's from the Land of Black Ice.

At one point I was going to use that series of viking-themed modules that can be downloaded from Dragonsfoot; the island was going to tie in somehow, although my planning never got that far. Maybe the lair/stronghold of the "Witch Queen" (or whatever she was called), or the final resting place of a magical item to assist the party, or maybe a planar gate to a frozen hell. You know, the usual Happy

Ah, another campaign idea that never came to fruition.

That statement is only true if you're dead, Jeminnab. Evil Grin

You still have time to bring it to fruition. Don't let go of that idea! It sounds great! Happy

Mort's idea of using the island as a place where a young warrior would test his "manhood" sounds really good too. And Damien gave some excellent ideas of the types of creatures such a young man might encounter on his quest. Cool

Or perhaps a young female shaman seeking her true calling, or just enlightenment, would travel there. Perhaps its holy ground. Wink

Great ideas all and much needed. Keep them coming. And keep participating, we need all the ideas we can get. Happy

Thanks one and all for sharing! Cool

In my campaign that isle is the last one of an archipelago that sunk beneath the sea long time ago, when the Fruztii etc. were still noble Suel houses that fled from the Suel empire before the cataclysm. It was a proud and powerful land of dragon lords a bit like Melnibone, but as the three houses fell into barbarism, the "empire" was forgotten and no remnants of it remains except for some ancient ruins encased in permafrost. The archipelago could also have hosted some other *tzii/*nai house that never had time to regress intio barbarism. So suel liches, viking-like zombies, undead dragons, ancient suel artifacts etc could be placed there.

At the risk of being crucified for using FR in a Greyhawk campaign, I used Ice Island from the Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast video game and elements of the barbarian invasion from Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter. Sadly, my notes for that were lost when I moved from Texas to Missouri.
