The Silent Ones protect the last vestiges of Ancient Suel magic. The Scarlet Brotherhood seeks to rebuild a Suel empire. Are there any connections between the two?

I haven't really looked into it from that perspective.
But the Scarlet Brotherhood is bent upon overt domination and rulership.
Whereas the Silent Ones, on the other hand, have always acted "behind the scenes" in Keoland, without apparently trying to "rule" outright. And I'm not familiar with an instance where they have attempted to enforce their will, or "rule," upon some other nation.
But I could be wrong. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Only hostile connections. LGJ #4 covers this although there may be other sources. The two groups have been enemies for more than a thousand years. Back in the days of the Suel Empire the forebears of the Silent Ones drove the Scarlet Brotherhood out of the Empire just before the Twin Cataclysms. It hasn't gotten any friendlier since then.

There is also a rivalry with the Seekers. It is possible that the Brotherhood ha agents within the Seekers to try and cause as many headaches for the Silent Ones as possible.
The Vermillion Queen is the Brotherhood's key agent in Keoland, thought to be an influential noblewoman.

The goals of the SB and the seekers oppose each other; the SB seek magical items particularily ancient suel magic to use it to further their goal of rebuilding the lost empire.
The silent ones desire powerful magical items; particarily ancient suel magic to prevent their use. The seekers wish to prevent the rise of an irresponsible empire; such as the Suel Imperium and Vecna.
The silent ones drove the adherents of the SB from the ancient Suel Imperium due to the irresponsible SB philosophy toward the use of powerful magic. No doubt the silent ones feel the SB are a fanactical vestige of the corrupt past that caused the Twin Cataclysms . The SB probably feel the silent ones are examples of the weak willed suel which was the reason the suel imperium fell.

What sources are you using?
The LGG states that the Silent Ones expressed disquiet over the rise of the Scarlet Brotherhood. Oerth Journal 3 is a virtually verbatim precurser of the LGG entry.
Is the LGJ that little splurb about Greyhawk that would appear in Dungeon (or was it Dragon?) for a short while? Or does it have something to do with Living Greyhawk?
Who are the Seekers?

Go the the "Home" page of Canonfire! and click on the Greyhawk wiki.
It will provide you with information on the "Seekers" and the "Silent Ones." It will also make mention of the "Skeptics of Nellix," a group for whom some Seekers have sympathies. Unfortunately, there's no information on the Skeptics at this point.
Of course, with the talent we have here, that situation won't last too long! _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Yeah, the LGJ is the Living Greyhawk Journal. Most did appear as part of Dragon or Dungeon magazines although 1-5 were published separately and some of them are hard to find. The contents and list of issues is at http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=3. The particular source I was using is an article in LGJ #4, "Silent Sorcery" by Gary Holian. That might have been the first appearance of the Seekers, though they were featured pretty prominently in the Savage Tide Adventure Path, published in Dungeon Magazine.
Like Mystic Scholar said, much of the relevant info will be in the GH Wiki articles for these groups.

Right on as always, Smillian. Gary Holian wrote that in 2001.
The Bibliography for the Seekers of the Arcane also shows Gary Gygax, Robert Kuntz, Eric Mona and James Jacobs writing about the Seekers in 2004 in the articles "Maure Castle" and "Maure Castle: The Adventure Begins" in Dungeon magazine #112.
Gary and Rick Miller write about them again in "Treasures of Greyhawk: Magic of the Company of Seven," Dragon magazine #359, in 2007.
Seems the Seekers are "alive and well" and in recent print. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Not that hard to find. LGJ#0 was available for free and a large part still is available as a free pdf at WotC. LGJ 1-5 were available to RPGA members at the time and you can still buy back issues at paizo (for $10 each). They pop up more or less regularly on ebay and should be slightly cheaper there.

There will be more for the Seekers(and maybe something related to the Silent Ones).
D'oh! Now I think I have to kill all of you now for having read this. I'll have to check with the powers that be, so say your prayers.

Thank you for the responses. I like the idea of the Scarlet Brotherhood infiltrating the Silent Ones and sparking a inner power struggle among them, and so, will run with it.

Rumor has it (from Holian's original article) that the Sons of Marchanter have also tried to infiltrate the Silent Ones, and are the only group to have (knowingly) managed to get into the Tower.

Maldin, as you are a "contributor" to the LGG, I'd call that "cheating!"
But thanks! I'll through that into my own story line. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Hey all,
If anyone needs any Silent Ones or Seekers lore sussed out let me know. I'm doing a bit of development in preparation for some articles for Canonfire and the Oerth Journal. We have a Seekers writeup originally meant for Dragon Magazine that Rick and I will be revising and publishing online.
On the original thread, yes, the Silent Ones and Scarlet Brotherhood are very much aware of each other. The Silent Ones are perhaps the only group in the Flanaess who were not surprised by the revelation/discovery of the SB in 573 CY. They spent the next two years rooting out spies in the noble courts of Keoland, some very highly placed. You can be sure they have been trying to infiltrate each other ever since. The SB are right to believe that the Silent Ones could restore much of their "birthright" in terms of the lost lore of the Suel Imperium, but getting at that is the hard part.
Slerotin is the only Mage of Power known to have definitely survived the Rain of Colorless Fire unharmed and the SB would give anything to have his legacy in their hands. They've already used their position in the Sea Princes lands to explore ruins in the Dreadwood and have come into direct conflict with the Dreadwalkers and agents of the Silent Ones there. They are certain to try to take advantage of the Silent Ones decline by having them cuckold the "perfect" SB operative from childhood, perhaps planted in a noble family by the treacherous Vermilion Queen herself.
