Greyhawk Common - Profound Pronounce

Greyhawk Common - Profound Pronounce is an idea I have been kicking about for a pronounceable guide to those many Tongue Twisters within the Realm. Of course one mans toe+moto is another's toe+mate+oh so this could even be regional. With this thread, we can accumulate and then compile into a usable download if / when of sufficient size.
For a based line reference and allowing for the NON existence various diacritics and grapheme in languages (ie umlaut, tilde, etc ) since I am not sure if all would see those with font restraints. I came up with this list.
\ah\ as a in abut
\uh\ as u in abut
\n\ as e in kitten
\r\ as ur/er in further
\a\ as a in ash
\ae\ as a in ace
\ao\ as o in mop
\owe\ as ou in out
\b\ as in baby
\ch\ as ch in chin
\d\ as d in did
\e\ as e in bet
\ee\ as ea in easy
\eey\ as y in easy
\er\ as e in hunger
\f\ as f in fifty
\g\ as g in go
\h\ as h in hat
\i\ as i in hit
\eye\ as i in ice
\j\ as j in job
\k\ as k in kin
\ich\ as ch in ich dien (see German)
\l\ as l in lily
\m\ as m in murmur
\n\ as n in own
\eng\ as ng in sing
\oh\ as o in go
\awe\ as aw in law
\oi\ as oy in boy
\p\ as p in pepper
\r\ as r in red
\s\ as s in less
\sh\ as sh in shy
\t\ as t in tie
\ths\ as th in thin
\th\ as th in the
\ou\ as oo in loot
\or\ as o in floor
\oo\ as oo in foot
\v\ as v in vivid
\w\ as w in away
\y\ as y in yet
\ouh\ as you in youth
\y\ as u in curable
\z\ as z in zone
\zh\ as si in vision
CAPITALS would define the Emphasis.
Here are some of my first offerings.
Iuz- \Eye\ou\z\
Lich- \L\i\Ch\ or \L\i\ich\ or in some parts \L\Eye\k\ has also been used
Minotaur- \M\i\n\Ah\t\or\
Tenser- \T\e\n\S\er\
Zagyg- \Z\Ah\g\i\g\ or if based on the entomology \Z\ah\g\Eye\g\
And I throw down the gauntlet to the Big C on the bilbibloopoop however its spelled hehehe

What's the difference? Perhaps for the second pair, you meant: '\ouh\ as "you" in youth'.
And, I beg to differ on the following two:
Ulek -\y\oo\l\e\k\ (Again, perhaps the problem is in the question I posed above.)
and
Jeklea Bay - j\e\k\l\ee\ah\ \b\ae\

Interesting
you went with a 'hard' "u" where I saw it as a rolling as in the word "Ultima"
Which is the real goal of doing this. dialects tend to "slang" words in different regions. Lord knows we here in TEXAS have ower own whay of sayin thangs... hehe And since this has a more global audience I thought it would be entertaining to see the differences in interpretations.
LOL I was not thorough and just glanced at the old darlene map the "k" kinda looks like an "r" hehe

Yep. I am not saying my pronunciation is correct, just that it is the way I pronounce those names. There was another thread a while back discussing the various pronunciations of Greyhawk names like Iuz, Lyme, etc. Your pronunciation key can help people make their chosen pronunciations of those words clear to others on the 'net.

I thought the same thing until I looked more closely at it. Then, I couldn't tell for sure if it was an 'r' or a 'k'. However, it is spelled with a 'k' in the written text, so that decided the matter for me.

Agreed, and I don't think there is "correct" and the "key" gives everyone common ground to "converse". I hope through active participation we can create a collective.

Hopefully, more of the Flanaess' great linguists, like Chevalier and Smillan_31, will chime in on this thread.

Awww, shucks. Honestly though, I'm usually less concerned with pronunciation than the historical side of linguistics, but this all looks pretty good to me.
Pronunciations are important though, I believe. When I did the glossary sections of the website for my Sterich campaign I included pronunciations for hard to pronounce or just weirdly pronounced names. My pronunciaton of Geoff is not what most people would make of it. Likewise with Sterich I go with a hard -ch rather than a sibilant.

I agree!! Just re-read their collective postings on linguistics and like them I too have a passion for the history and entomology of words.
For any that also have an interest, chime in and also please visit these as you will find them useful and enlightening as I have.

For Hochoch, I just tell the players to act like they're choking on a loogie.
Right, DLG! I failed to include Robbastard in my list above. Sorry if I missed any others.

Invoked for the first time! I will need to look over these to give a proper response - haven't worked with any sort of phonemes in 20 years. But this is really cool.
I know that some of my pronunciations deviate a bit according to personal preference...will chart these when I have a little time.
