    Cover of "From the Ashes"

I'm sorry, I feel I should know this, but somehow I can't put a finger on it. What exactly is depicted on the cover of the boxed set of From the Ashes? Front and center is a humanoid monster of some sort riding an (undead?) steed, with humanoids riding horses behind him. In the background is a castle on a hill, seemingly aflame.

It could simply be a cool fantasy image, but if I had to try to place it within the context of the Greyhawk Wars (which would be appropriate for the cover of that boxed set), I'd say it might be an animus general leading his army in the sacking of a fortress in Almor.

Oh, an animus general--that makes sense.

    It's probably Duke Szeffrin.

Wow, I even get his name! Good deal--it's nice to know what, and even who, the picture is of.

The cover of FtA is an homage and/or update to the scene depicted on the '83 box. Since the knight's banner on the '83 box is related to the Wild Coast city of Fax (maybe the blue line signifies a Lord's connection to Narwell as well?), that's an option.

I feel compelled to agree with Rasgon. Duke Szeffrin of Bloodcrystal. He is the most likely of the Animii to be laying seige to petty noble keeps.
