History of the House of Fruztii

by Flandall. Used with Permission. Do not repost without obtaining prior permission from the author.

The peoples of the Thillonrian Peninsula known to most as the Frost Barbarians are actually a remnant of a once imperial house of the ancient Sueloise Empire, which fell over a millenium ago.

The following builds on, and continues from, "The Sueloise Dominion", from the Oerth Journal Vol. #1, May 12, 1995 as released by the Council of Greyhawk; and it also splits off from the The Suel Barbarian Project at the Greyhawk Codex.. The first set of dates use the calendar of the Sueloise Dominion; the dates that follow use the Common Year format currently in use throughout much of the Flanaess.

1173 SD Rise of the House of Fruztii. A minor noble-mage named Zinif Fruztin betrayed his liege lord's treason to the Emperor Londizar of the House of Rhola. In return, Zinif and his family are given the honored status of House, and he is given the lands of the executed and destroyed. Thus the House of Fruztii forms a mere 71 years after the ascession of the first emperor. (-4343 CY)

1884 SD Frulzin ben Kepziz assigned to the post of High Mage of the Empire, the first of many High Mages from the House of Frutzii. (-3632 CY)

1997 SD Relzit ben Kaviz of the House of Fruztii, as High Mage, announces the founding of the art of Lesser Binding. Creator of the first and greatest of the rings of Genie Summoning. (-3519 CY)

2308 SD Intermarriage with the House of Schnai brings the two houses into close cooperation. (-3208 CY)

2664 SD Succession to the throne of the House of Neheli leads to the execution of Griztin ben Marriz, the last of the Fruztii High Mages, and the banishment of the House of Fruztii to the mountainous eastern extreme of the Empire. (-2852 CY)

2741 SD The House of Fruztii begins the worship of the God Beltar, and the closer cooperation with his other followers and their neighbors, the House of Cruskiii. (-2775 CY)

3188 SD Assassination of the Emperor Argent var Mengar XXI, rise of the House of Zolax in close alliance with the Houses of Fruztii, Schnai, and the borderland House of Cruskiii. The post of High Mage is revived, but given to the house of Schnai, with the House of Fruztii given the duties of imposing the religion of Beltar throughout the lands. (-2328 CY)

3204 SD Zofar adZol proclaims that there is inherent evil in the binding of Genies and commands that all of the Great Binders be turned over to him for destruction and release of the genies. Zofar collects five of the Binders, in addition to the Binder of the King. Houses Fruztii, Cruskii, and Schnai violently oppose this move, causing the Sueloise War of Revolution (3205 SD). (2312 and 2313 CY)

3235 SD Defeat of the Houses of Revolution, and the second banishment of the House of Fruztii, this time to the northern lands controlling the Bakluni. (-2281 CY)

3971 SD Rebellion of the Bakluni, and the defeat of the House of Fruztii at the Battle of Meheli Hill. (-4213 CY)

3977 SD The Suel and Bakluni come to an uneasy peace. Destruction of the House of Gutip for losing a Binder to the Bakluni rebels. (1539 CY)

4000 SD The leader of House Fruztii, Abelbar ben Uzbiz, seeks to wrest control of the Binder from the Bakluni. Instead, he loses the Binder which his family has controlled for Millennia to the Bakluni, but he keeps this loss secret. (1516 CY)

4437 SD The House of Schnai takes the throne in close association with their eternal allies, the Houses of Fruztii and Cruskiii. The collapse of the Empire is delayed for another 300 years through the draconian measures of the ruling houses. (-1079 CY)

4912 SD Fall of the House of Schnai from the throne, and the third banishment of the House of Fruztii, this time back to the eastern mountains. The leaders of the House begin the covert worship of Tharizdun in addition to Wee Jas, abandoning Beltar whom they feel has forsaken them. They build a secret temple to Tharizdun in the hills to their southwest. (-604 CY)

5069 SD The son of the emperor, Zellifar adZol, flees the kingdom. He and his many followers escape through the mountains with the mighty aid of Slerotin. (-447 CY)

5070 SD The emperor sends commands that the Houses Schnai, Cruskiii and Fruztii bring his son, and the "Unloyal" back to face justice. Greatly hating the High Mage Slerotin, the Houses leap at the opportunity for redemption. (446 CY)

5072 SD The three Houses of Pursuit, unable to find the tunnel of Slerotin, circle around following the ancient trail the Flan and Oeridian used to enter the Flanaess, through the passes of Ket. (-444 CY)

5079 SD The Houses of Pursuit are defeated by the guerilla forces of the Flan and the vaunted infantry of the Oeridians at the battle of Mitterik (now the capital of Veluna). For two years the Houses are harried by Flan, Oerids, and elves until they are forced beyond the Hool Marshes. Some weaker of the houses flee across Jerlea Bay and settle the Amedio Jungle. (-437 CY)

5080 to 5087 SD The Three Houses remain in what is now the Hold of the Sea Princes. They gather strength and build a mighty armada as their mages seek the Unloyal. Founding of the city of Monmurg. At the end of this period the armada launches, and the three houses return to the pursuit. (-436 to -429 CY)

5093 SD The First Division occurs. One of Zellifar's minions, the High Priest Pellipardus, slips away from the Zolites and takes his minor family to the Ratik area, in the North. Pellipardus takes one of the Binders with him. Zellifar does not pursue, fearing that this will take his attention away from the Three Houses of Pursuit: the Schnai, the Fruztii, and the Cruskii. (493 CY)

5094 SD Zellifar parleys with the Houses of Pursuit. His Arch Mage, Slerotin, unleashes a Mass Enfeeblement on their house mages, and a Mass Suggestion upon the other members of the Houses. Slerotin is blasted by magical energies upon the casting of these mighty spells, leaving the Rift Canyon as the only physical remains of this massive outpouring of energy. The remnants of the Three Pursuing Houses (Schnai, Fruztii, Cruskiii) are devastated and blasted by magic. Their mages minds are wiped of all magic, and the people are confused and terrified. In mass they flee, pell mell, northeastward. (-422 CY)

(-421 CY)

5101 SD The Judgment of Kord: The Houses, having found external peace, now fall upon each other. The leaders of each of the three houses gather for a contest of blood to see where each House shall settle on the peninsula. The leader of the House of the Fruztii, named Thillonr, is the victor. As victors, the Fruztii take the best lands to the south, sending the Cruskii across the mountains to the north, and the Schnai to the eastern tip of the Thillonrian peninsula.

5141 SD The Fruztii start to rejuvenate their strength, but without the evils of magic. The bards (Skalds) of the people tell stories of the horrors of magic, and the three northern houses begin to develop a near-pathological hatred of mages and magic. They meet the people of Ratik. The First War of Settlement starts. It lasts six years until both end it through mutual exhaustion. The dark and impenetrable Timberway Forest becomes the unofficial border between the House of Ratik and the now Kingdom of the Fruztii. (-375 CY)

5464 SD The Fruztii invade the Timberway Forest by land and land in force by sea outside of Marner. In thanks to Kord for the victory, the Fruztii make Krakenheim their capital. (9 CY)

5598 SD Third War of Settlement. The forces of the Frutzii and Schnai land in force near Marner, but all the longships are destroyed by the Baron of Ratik and his mages. A few warriors fight their way back through the Timberway Forest along the Trail of Fire. (82 CY)

5601 SD By the decree of King Kaglar, all mages found within the borders of the Kingdom of the Fruztii are to be slain. Many sages and other teachers are burned alive as expounders of magic. The other two kingdoms soon follow suit, and magical knowledge is exterminated throughout the peninsula. (85 CY)

5744 SD to 6052 SD The three tribes take turns raiding each other and neighboring nations, each one gaining small victories and losing minor defeats. The second siege of Krakenheim (in 5893 SD) occurs during these wars. (228 CY to 536 CY)

6065 SD Promised much by the Schnai, the Stonefisters invade the Fruztii through the mountain passes. After much pillage and bloodshed, the Fruztii repel the Stonefists, who return growling that the Schnai did not live up to their part of the bargain. (549 CY)

6069 SD The Battle of Shamblefield is fought against the Schnai resulting in the death of good King Orliff and the decimation of the already weakened Fruztii army. The third Siege of Krakenheim results. The siege lasts three years, a small miracle on both sides. The Fruztii surrender their holy city to the Schnai and the regency of the child King Aloff is given to the Schnai Jarl Falgarf. (553 CY)

6078 SD Having turned sixteen and declared his intention to end the regency, King Aloff is murdered by a coalition of rebel nobles, Jarl Falgarf, and Schnai intrigues. Aloff's body is never found. (562 CY)

6081 SD The Jarl Regent, Falgarf, is found murdered in his room, with a symbol of Beltar burned into his body. The Schnai cast about the Fruztii Jarls and place one of them, the malleable Jarl Ralff, on the throne. Ralff signs a humiliating treaty with the Schnai which includes the surrender of the rest of the Spikey Forest and a large annual tribute, after which the Schnai leave Krakenheim to return to their lands. (565 CY)

6087 SD King Ralff and the Baron Lexnol of Ratik conclude a treaty of friendship, and work with the Ratiks in their raids into the Bone March and the mountains. Trade between the two nations increases in leaps and bounds. (571 CY)

6098 SD The Time of Ill-Vatun. Across the Thillonrian Peninsula, a mighty warrior appears before the peoples of the north, proclaiming himself Vatun, the Risen God. It had long been a legend that the fifth mighty Sword of Corusk would be found and at that time Vatun, God of the North, would rise up and lead the tribes of the north in a mighty war of conquest and a return to the greatness their Skalds spoke of. Vatun appears at many places in the lands at once, and the many hosts follow him. Carried along with his people, King Ralff leads many of his warriors across the mountains to invade the hated Stonefists. (582 CY)

6100 SD Having overcome the Stonefists, with their leader Sevvord Redbeard now under Vatun's power, the God of the North next commands the barbarian horde to turn and invade Ratik as the Stonefists invade Tenh. With his alliance with Ratik and his life's work about to be destroyed, King Ralff comes to his senses. He refuses to allow his Fruztii warriors to invade Ratik, and denounces Vatun. The guise of Vatun is shattered by Ralff, and Vatun is shown to be Iuz. Iuz slays Ralff, but his son, Hundgred, leads the Fruztii warriors over the mountains to their homes. The other two tribes of the north also return home after Iuz's deception is revealed, although more than a few of the Schnai are slain as they make their way across the Frutzii lands. Hundgred, although only seventeen, is crowned in Krakenheim. (584 CY)

6104 SD Secretly Hundgred sends to Ratik for a few mages, and initiates a school of magic. Due to the hatred of his people towards mages (the legacy of Slerotin), he convokes the school in the palace, teaching magic to the children of his most trusted advisors in secret. (588 CY)

6106 SD King Hundgred refuses the annual tribute due to the Schnai. Despite threats of war, the two people continue to cooperate in the raids of North Province and the Sea Barons, which are lucrative enough to keep the Schnai happy...for now. (590 CY)

6107 SD The present year. Rumors persist of a Schnai invasion aimed at a fourth Siege of Krakenheim, as raids continue over the sea, as well as in conjuction with Ratik into the Bone March and over the mountains into the lands of the hated Stoneholders. (591 CY)
